s.techs or h. techs? looking for your opinions
s. techs = sexy
h. techs= practical
my heart is torn in two
i prefer the s. tech drop (soo sick) and camber or alignment are not an issue.
but im wondering if i do get the s. techs, will i park my car one day to find my rs1 lip (lowers front bodyline about 1") has been ripped off?
the streets here are in good condition with only the occasional gnarley entrances ie. gas station or shopping mall. so i guess scrapping isnt too big an issue.
im worried about bottoming out. my buds drive ae 86's and celicas so naturally they wanna ride in the tC.
will i cringe everytime i have 3, 4, or even 5 people going over a speedbump?
will every driveway turn into some life or death philisophical decision that of the likes ive never experienced?
probably not, but i would appreciate your guy's feedback, theres alot of help on this site and i respect your opinions.
pix also coming soon, thanks again!

I havent really shot too many pictures recently of them, but they are sitting at about a finger gap for each wheel. My h-techs have been on for a year? I forget. But they are some good comfortable and good handling springs.
But seriously, if you plan to mod heavily I would really suggest coilovers.

i vote h.techs. ive had them for 2years+ and i love them; comfort and handling are very much to my liking.. (maybe a rear sway later)..
i scrape a little bit, but as long as im careful and take it slow i wont have problems. i would hate to imagine how bad scraping would be with stechs.

i heard hotchkis were a bit too stiff (affects comfort but raises handling - depends what you're looking for).
and i would've went with trd but the drop didn't really look consistant between tCs (some looked stock and some looked like they were on stechs).

I got mine installed at the dealer when I bought the car (didn't have to pay for installation). With my 18's and 225/40/18's I had a perfectly equal gap around the entire wheel well. With my 17's I have a little more gap, but it's still better than stock.

It depends on how much you care about handling. Here is a link to a lot of spring info for the tC. 1.4" from stock is about the right drop, lower and the geometry starts going south.

H tech = want to look low and want a smooth ride = terrible combo. Lower MUST equal stiffer to even handle so - so. The H techs are a good amount lower than the TRDs, yet barely have higher rates in the front and have LOWER rates in the rear than TRD's. I have never seen a car autox'd on them, but I predict an understeering beast that spends a good amount of slalom time bouncing off the bump stops
Hotchkis drop is too low to really be optimal for handling and the rates are way too low. Even worse if you look is the fact that the rear/front rate ratio is too low. TRDs feel much more balanced that stock with a rear spring rate that is twice the front.
The issue with most springs is that they are taylored for people who want to slam the car but keep ride comfort, which is a terrible combo to say the least. There arent many setups out there that do it right. H&R sports seem to be a good height, but I dont have rate info on them.
Only get coilovers if you are really going to cornerbalance and fully tune the suspension. If not, you are just wasting money on the adjustability of them. If you just want to get a set of springs to lower the car and leave it at that, just buy a set of springs that meets your needs and save the money.
