Bumping this

Make sure to check your state regulations. In Washington, winter tires are not considered to be enough. The state still requires cables or chains. So before you go sinking money on a whole set of tires and wheels, take a quick trip to Google

Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25s
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
those would be my recommendation for a snow tire with few compromises in dry weather. (these are the newer versions of the LM-22s, also a very good snow tire).
also, look at the speed ratings of the winter tires. go with an HR Speed Rating instead of a QR Speed Rating.
the Qs, while great in snow, have pretty low levels of grip in dry conditions and produce a gummy feeling when driving on dry, clear roads.

raśl...

i live in Utah and we get pretty bad snow here. with my 06 tC, i havent really had any problems with running the stock Potenzas in the snow...i know i really shouldn't...but im doing it becuase the dealership is giving me free stock tires for life, so if they wear out becuase of snow they will replace them. ;-)

my scion does much better in the snow than i thought, i believe thats becuase its a heavier car. i had a 05 dodge neon before my tC, and damn did that thing SUCK in the snow, or light mud, ect.

if you drive carefully and know how to drive in the snow, i wouldnt think you'd have much of a problem. though, snow tires of course would always help in the snow and be much better.

man, i'm chiming in way late, seeing as it's now April almost...but for winter this year, I rocked 15'' 2001 Toyota Celica rims with Bridgestone Blizzak tires. This worked great. I live in NW Indiana, right on lake Michigan, and we get TONS of lake effect snow. The only thing that ever slowed me down was the low-ness of my car. No rubbing or any issues with this setup either! Highly recommend!

lulz...who needs winter tires. As long as you drive slow, there is no need for them.
