shock life
For those of you who have dropped their tc at least 1.5 inches and kept the stock shocks, how long have you had the drop? ... im just trying to get an idea of how long the stock shocks will last with a decent drop.

I have the hotchkis springs and I believe the drop is 1.6" front and about 1.8" rear. Not 100% on that though. But I'm not really the best example I guess b/c I've only had them on for about 3 weeks. Shocks (or maybe even coilovers) are in my future plans, but they won't be anytime real soon.

glad you took it the right way.
well the life of shocks should be expressed in miles. the most you'll get in time is 1 year.
i know of a tC lowered 1.5ish...
its been good for 10,000 mile already...
i don't think you'll have a problem for the normal life af a shock.
but that just my opinion. not fact...

yes. you will know when its gone...
it will make you feel like you are on a ship rolling in the waves.
test it from the outside.
go to a corner of your car. push the car down/up (make it bounce up and down)
then take your hands of the car. if it does more than 1 bounce its bad.
i think a lot of people think they are blown, when in fact its not.

but only one big bounce. then 1 or 2 little weight shifting movements (from fluids moving or such)

it will.
just not as bad as some would make you think.
when you lower, you are moving the operating range of the strut/shock move past the engineered range.
this could leed to bottoming out and undo wear.
with a mild drop (TRD) its not a big enough factor to worry about.

ever see cars on the highway, where the wheel is dribbling up and down like a basketball in fast foward? thats a case of really blown shocks.
you can also pull the shock/strut out and compress it. if the piston/rod doesnt come back up fully, then its blown.
