Can we assume the TRD rear sway specs (39/64% roll stiffness increase) are based on the manual's thinner sway? If so seems an auto SHOULD feel less of a difference going from stock to TRD sway.

Especially in my situation - daily driver, don't autox, don't drive especially fast or corner hard (well, the wife thinks I do )

i would actually go with the progress bar. 1 extra level of adjustment and it comes with its own endlinks.

a rear sway from trd or progress is a mild change to your suspension and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages (i don't see a disadvantage other than a lighter wallet)

definately set it on race. even for street, its not so much stiffer like the hotchkis is.

^^Do you have roll stiffness specs on the Progress swaybar?

Moosey, unless you have an auto I would say disregard my situation with TRD sway on stock springs. Unless hear otherwise I'm chalking up my "no difference" to the auto having the thicker 20mm stock sway to begin with.

If yours is a stick I would trust the many posters here who swear by the rear sway upgrade, and it's a very easy mod to do.

I only lost it once that day (in the rain :D ), and it slid fairly straight (sideways), but understeered a bit first. So I wouldnt worry about it being hard to handle. I actually wish it oversteered more than it does.

I agree that bang for buck, overall in any performance category, the sway is the way to go. Very noticeable improvement for little dough and very little install effort.

But if you want more response as well, look at tires and springs. I will always say on this car, in order of handling impact, it is tires --> sway --> springs --> strut bar. The sway and springs are very close.
my goodness.. theres autox in minneapolis?! all I see is boy racers on midway with their loud exhaust and giant wings. hmmmm....

the rear sway was awesome for me, and i have an auto....

i know it helped a great deal...car can still understeer if you hit the gas, oversteers if you hit the brakes, just much more balanced period

If anything, I think it'd make the car a bit worse in the snow since (as I understand it, I could be wrong), a sway tightens the whole chassis... and achieves its affect on handling by basically reducing the grip of the set of tires it is near.

So, I think it might not be the best for snow... but it won't kill you either. In the end, it probably won't make a big difference unless you're running some monster sways.

yes, lowering your car makes it worse in the snow because there is less clearance between the wheels and the fenders, so they will fill up in notime making it hard to steer and the wheels will be unable to shed snow off of them.

just a sway bar however i can't see harming your snowy weather handling.

how would paul know about handling in snow? he is florida! has he even seen snow first hand?

LOL it's just my impeccable theoretical logic

I have seen snow... twice... when I was like 6 or 7

But yes, for the most part... people in Florida believe snow is just a myth propagated by our more northerly neighbors

Did you put on new tires (and maybe springs) same time as your sway?

went to the dealer today, and asked about the sway, they said if i went with an aftermarket sway from somewhere else it would void suspension warranty, and that TRD was my best bet.

i looked at the guy like.........right

and walked away

^ That's common, my dealer operates the same way, and the salesman even told me when I bought it that I should check with their service manager before making any mods, to ensure I didn't void the warranty.

It's a racket that many of them attempt, first to get you to spend money on TRD products, then to not have to fix your car when you use something else. While some of us would go and escalate the warranty denial to Scion/Toyota in order to get it resolved, many people just accept what the dealer says and take the hit, not knowing it's bogus and that they don't have to accept the lie.

In that situation I'd have walked too.

i did get different tires around that time, maybe before, but that was because my potenzas were sliding everywhere, i went to Nitto Neo-gens(not much of an upgrade in dry, but a hack of an upgrade in wet)

i still have not added springs, plan to in the future

i felt the loss of most understeering after adding the sway, i could definetly tell a big difference, the car slid much more neutral then before
