Default tein basic, too bouncy?

i finally finished installing them, and now the front is about 1.25" gap from tire to fender, and rear is about 1.75" but i noticed that the car is uncomfortably "bouncy", its not stiff but rather as if i was sitting on purely springs. every ditch i hit the car bounces quickly atleast 3 times, then stops.

i rather it be stiff than bouncy, because i feel that the car is going to bounce out of control.

are you guys experncing this as well?

1. i installed front, a shop installed rear. what do you suggest to adjust?
2. i didn't measure the stock height, but its significantly lowered. i did try to follow raamaudio's suggestion of 1 inch over tire. so it is not slammed.
3. stiffness rating? how do you adjust that on the basic?
4. i am not sure what do you mean.

thanks.

did you get an installation manual?

i think the preload is messed up or was never set.. refer to page 5 of your installation manual.

the basic's are not damping adjustable...

check how much pre-load you have on the springs... You can do that by jacking up the car and adjusting the locking spring seats until there is no tension on the spring... If you put as little pre-load as possible on the spring (when the locks are just where they come in contact with the spring) then they should be a little smoother... make sure the upper mounts are bolted on properly...

i have the basics and its more stiff then bouncy. first time i ever heard of tein coilovers being too bouncy as opposed to their springs alone. more people complained of how stiff they are ..

nismoz33: that sucks. i think on the tein the preload is tied to ride height. i guess i am dropped too low? but i thougth when i installed the front i thought there was no preload and the car was slammed...

normally, more preload = less height (which makes sense)
so if i want to raise my car, i move the perches down?

Unfortunatlyl with the TEIN Basic / Tanabe S0-C, the Pre-Load is set the same way the Ride Heigh is... The lower the car is set, the less pre-load is on the springs... With them being Liner Springs with a certain amount of overall spring stroke total, if you have alot of pre-load on the spring, you could be using 1/4 of the overall spring stroke...

If you do feel the springs are too stiff on your basic, you can get replacement springs for the TEIN Basic / Tanabe S0-C or pretty much any coil over system out there with either a lower spring rate or higher, or even longer or shorter overall lenth which will help with ride height adjustments...

If you want to lower the car, you would move the perches down, *less pre-load*

If you want to raise the car, you would move the perches up, *More pre-load*

ugh, that's what i was afraid of...

if i could adjust the damper to be stiffer then everything will be great, but i feel right now the springs are out powering the dampers. my first tein experience, kinda disappointed... but i guess that's basic..
