Default Tein H-techs, or TRD

Should i go with the Tein H-techs, or the TRD springs...i know they are both about the same drop, but are they the same spring rates??

opinion/advice appreciated

Thanks

i would say h-techs. It advertizes 1.9F 1.5R. I dont think it drops it that much up front. I would think 1.5-6 front. At least from the looks of it to me? I think the h-techs are the luxury on the tein line? Someone correct me if im wrong?

i have trd spring and shocks, i think the drop is perfect. it is noticible without fear or botteming out as much as lower springs. plus you get a warranty with them. just remember, don't do springs without sport shocks.

i have seen both, i love the stance of the h-techs, i went a little lower for now with s-techs before my coilovers, but i would definitly say h-techs.

no shocks means crappy ride and blown out shocks. save up and do it right the first time.

^^Yes, ideally you would upgrade shocks at the same time, since any lowering spring will shorten the life of the stock shocks. But it's not an immediate necessity. There are threads where people have gone 15,000 miles+ on stock shocks. Seems those who blew shocks early had more radical drops, not mild-droppers like TRD & H-techs.

Also check out German made Vogtland springs.

I believe for tC its the same drop as TRD.

Nice red violet color and very affordable.

I got into them from a few tC threads and picked them up from NEWEDGE.

i was on stock shocks for around 10k miles with no problem. i recently upgraded to TRD shocks in march just because i had the money and wanted 2 upgrade. so aftermarket shocks arent necessary once you get the springs. i still say htechs will give a decent drop.

Theres a crap load of springs i went with the hotchkis ones though. I would go with h-techs from those choices though, they are both really good springs it just depends on the drop you want

The OP asked about spring rates:

stock: (F/R) 150/245 lbs/in
TRD: 177/309
H-tech: 185/308

Since the spring rates are so close - choose by drop. TRD are 1.25" all around, H-tech's are 1.9" front / 1.5" rear.

Have H-tech's and like the raked look - the fronts are noticeably lower than rears. Only issue is scraping the front if you enter a steep driveway straight-on like I did right after alignment (At least the front bumper isn't metal.)

Should have fewer scraping issues with TRD.

And always hit those steep driveways by turning the wheel slightly and leading with either front tire.

well, ive decided to go with the TRD springs...tein jsut had too big of a drop for me up front, i already scrap in a couple places(i dont travel there very often, but occasionally i do need to)

best price i've sound so far is McGeorgeParts.com, trdsparks was about 5 bucks more(every penny counts

anyone else seen any good prices lately?

I would not keep the stock shocks if you are lowering the car. They will last a while but the quality is poor from new. I was amazed at how bad mine were when I took them off last week.

If you want handling and don't care about "how low can I go" then you should stick with TRD.

Anyone that needs more of a drop than TRD offers is either looking for a total track car or they just need attention.

the trds have done me well, handling is now limited to my dyineg nitto neo-gens(not the best dry traction, but hold there own in and rain, so i'll kepp them till they die

my lack of an alignment(combination of time and money, luckily i have both now) and skill are all that keep the car from being dead on

i tihnk tc's should have came with TRD's from the factory(maybe not height, i have drug the exhaust) but otherwise, the handling and feel is superb.

its tight enough that now i can basically control the slie using brakes and throttle(in an auto at that!)

Love it, can tell i will probably need to upgrade to TRD shocks, because the suspension can get snappy at times
