touge attack tC

that being said...
the least you need is a set of sticky tires.. Not dumblops! Hoosiers and kumho's are pretty gooey and have great grip.
If you're looking for the ultimate upgrade, drop that ride on a set of solid coilovers (adjustable) Sawys sways sways ... The camber on the tC is pretty much set and would be hard, without chewing metal, to ad adjustable camberplates. There basically isn't a whole lot of room to adjust... if any.
Stiffen the suspension.
The tC's center of gravity is going to kill ya... it's not canyon friendly.
Lastly... better than a canyon drive would be an open track day.
I've got a sizeable list for ya.
You can find some Here

Canyons, mountains, all fun, I recommend doing some autocrossing first to learn the car better so you do not hurt yourself or somebody else.
No offense meant but few people actually know how to really drive, when young and full of **** you can tend to think you are invinceable but you are not, just the way it is.
I have decades of experience, lucky I lived through my youth, but still I know drivers far better than I am but not many young guns can hang with me just because of the years I have under my belt learning how to setup a car and use it within it's boundaries and mine. Stray beyond those limits very often and you will bite it, sometimes hard enough to be your last.
You want to go fast, take a high performance driving school, autocross, then on to track days, etc, etc. You will learn alot more than you possibly can on public roads because you can push yourself to failure and learn from it yet walk away.
By the way, I just autocrossed this past Sunday, shakedown runs to learn more about the car and needed adjustments and followed that up with a 60+ mile run through some of the best and most challenging mountain runs I have ever done, exhausting but oh so much fun, especially the 180 degree turn I did a perfect drift staying in my lane I have ever done;)

Of course it does
I grew up in the country, dirt and gravel roads, snow, and some sweet twisty asphalt roads with little traffic to get in your way.
All good training for future survival, sliding sideways in the dirt is still my favorite way to drive

focus on suspension and tires first. you dont need power upgrades until you start getting good at canyon running. i go up to GMR and I barely get out of 2nd gear. every week there's some stupid newbie who thinks he's Mr. Initial D, and wrecks.
if you go during the day, there's traffic behind every blind corner and risk hitting someone. if you go at night, there's no traffic, but you wont see blind turns and wreck like this guy from last week.....
previous wrecks have destroyed this part of the retaining wall. one guy fell to his death.
keep in mind the car is facing off the mountain.
nice AE86.

i posted a video of a friend's canyon run at GMR a few months back.
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=73204
at 1min 39sec into the video, you'll see the same spot where that red AE86 (and others) wrecked. the video was shot months before that red AE86 wrecked.

He got dang lucky, hopefully learned a bit from it.
I really mean no offense to anybody at all but you can only learn so much from video games and even canyon runs. You need to be able to go all out and overboard safely to know what to do and what not to do reflexively, no time to think when about to loose it.
You cannot do that on a mountain or canyon road, must be learned on a track of some sort and a professional driving school is even better yet.
I am still learning new techniques and I have been doing this for 37 years now. My reaction time is certainly not what is used to be, my eyesight used to be incredibly good and night vision very accutte. I have lost alot of that but the years of practice help make up for that and far more in most situations. Except nights, I just cannot go as fast as I like now as cannot see as well, even with 20/20 glasses on.
Don't get me wrong, I could end up posting my crash story here one day as well. I certainly hope it never happens and I am carefull to do my best to prevent it but there are no garantees when we push the envelope, sheat happens to all of us in time.
Rick
P.S. I have lost a few good buddies over the years that where better than I am;)

Don't even bother with the canyons or any mountain driving.
It's not worth it and the tC is not balanced for it.
One wrong decision can end your life or your passengers.
Go to an open track day and learn how to drive. Learn how to correct yourself when you over/understeer.

Drifting use to be kool... until idiots killed it... There's alot a cops now near my area place called Rolling Hills in Arlington St. Its a uphill/downhill climb with good turns. someone crashed and died there. I go up there for the view of PCH area and all at night not to go crazy. I get pulled over there now unlike before. I use to see alot a fix up cars going up there too and people hanging out sometimes... but now i rarely see em... sigh...
