1. Buy a new set of springs. possibly H-tech or basic H&R. Both are lower in the rear then the TRD's but the compression rate is stiffer and might fix the problem
or
2. Rent a fender roller and a heat gun and go at the rear of the car. Really don't want to attempt this but I looks like I have no choice

Any other suggestions or input on which direction to go?
So, you are going to fix the issue by getting a lower drop? You're either going to have to roll the fenders, or get new wheels. Are you running spacers on the wheels?

this might sound weird, but try taking off each wheel and putting it back on, making sure that the nuts all line up right. when i got new tires, i was bottoming out EVERYWHERE! tiny dips going 50mph on freeway, 35mph street. i thought i had a blown shock. but when i changed my oil, the oil filter happen to be very stubborn so i had to remove the front wheel to get to it. after putting it back on, the problem was magically gone! my only theory is maybe discount tire co. didnt mount the wheels back on my car correctly. it's worth a try!

No no spacers but the wheel is +38.
I was figuring that another spring might prevent the car from dipping as much by getting a better compression rated/stiffer spring.

Sounds good in theory but I think your right fender roll is going to have to be the solution.

may have to go back to stock if you don't want to roll the fenders... I have seen that offset work before thats why I didn't think that was the cause but every car/wheel is different...

That is too weird! I have 18x8 et35 with 225/40/18's and have no problem with rubbing. Dropped on coilovers, but have a smaller gap than you do! I had a rubbing issue in the front where the plastic was at one point, but raised it up a little and was fine.

^^ You would definatley know if you were rubbing, it is an unmistakable noise.

I also have the 18x8 +38. I only rub ion the front drivers side when diving into a left hand turn in the twisties or turn in to fast into a driveway. I didn't see any marks on your tires from the fender though. So let me ask you this. Have you taken off the wheel and looked in your fender wheel for "marring" from the tire rubbing? If it is hitting the soft fender plastic it isn't a damage causing scenario just annoying. Are you on TRD shocks or stock struts?

If you are on stock and you have been for awhile I would look atthe shocks with the wheel off and see if there is any leaking fluid signaling a shocks death. You are running bigger wheels which is more stress on the suspension so if the struts are giving out you may be losing a little "beef" in the support for your vehicle.

Anyway, just some ideas. With my mild isue in the front I was just going to install the sway bar sets to reduce a it of the body roll. Common sene makes me think that would help...maybe not. Any input would be great fromt eh rest of you here on SL on that one.

38 sticks out farther.

the smaller the offset the more its closer to the hub, the larger the offset that more it sticks out.

stock wheels are 45 and they are pretty muched tucked, 35 sits nicley right at the edge of the darn rear wheel wells edge, 38 touches that edge when you rub on dips and what not, thats why i dont like 38's

Ahh I think that you meat to say that the other way around. You got it backwards in that post.
A +35 offset will stick out father then a +38 offset. Here this calculator is a good tool for playing with wheel offsets.

think about the stock wheels for a minute

the lower the offset the more the wheel will stick out. is your friend running spacers? or a wider wheel than you?

kind of odd to rub with TRDs..i've had them before with my current wheels, 18x8.5 +30 offset in the rear and no rubbing issues, thats before i was dropped ~3inches and cambered...weird

ahh yeah the stock is 45. so like you said 38 sticks out more and with that said 35 would even more.
I think what is being missed here in your statement is the wheel width.
Just look at the calculator.
stock
17 X 7 +45
compaired to
18 X 8 +38 inner 6mm less, outter extended 20mm
compaired to
18 x 8 +35 inner 3mm less, outter extended 23mm
here I am compairing two wheels with an 8" width, and if I continue to decrease the offset the wheel wil sit farther and farther out.

on the other hand

If your friend has a 8 or 8.5 with a +38 and you only have a 7 or 7.5 with a +35 his will stick out more.

and I agree w/ both of ya. I have know IDEA why I am rubbing. But I am. But just ever so slightly. Its not even enough to leave any deep or noticable marks on the tire. I just don't understand why people with far more aggressive widths and offsets and have no issues at all.

This thread is interesting. I checked today to try and find where I would occasionly rub and couldn't find any marks. I was however about 1/2 inch off the plasticin the fender with the wheel cranked so I have a feeling that's where I hit. No biggie, like I said very rare event.
