Default TRD vs. Koni

The trd shock sets are $459.00, and the koni yellow sport shock sets are $281.52. I know the obvious choice as far as price goes is the koni's, but which one is better....are the koni's cheaper cause they are a crappy brand and the trds more expensive because they're TRD or what...any input would be appreciated....thanks!

I would make sure the Koni's aren't that price for two of them. That's way too cheap for a full set of shocks/struts.

Either way, I'd say go with the Konis.

I agree that the price you quoted would have to be for 2 shocks, not the complete set. I have the TRD setup and have nothing but good things to say about it. In theory the KONI is better, but is it worth the extra cost to you for what you plan to do with the car. Also you should be aware that the KONI shocks require modification of the stock shocks (cutting) in order for them to fit properly. If you dont plan on raod racing the car on a regular basis, the TRD shocks will take excellent care of you.

Oh... looks like those prices are for singles. You'd need two of the front and two of the rear.

Yeah, Koni will not be cheaper than the TRD stuff. The TRD price is for a set fo 4. Those are prices per shock.

This is what you can expect to pay for the Koni's

i have the koni's and they are by far better, and there is a life time warrenty on the Konis. It was a lil over 600 to get em and shipped, and the install set me back 375$ because of the fab work. Most places were either too scared to try or wanted a ridiculous amount. In the end i love em matched with my H&R race springs. One last thing the rears arent as easily adjustable as the fronts. Make sure you put them more or less were you want them before they get installed, because the only way to adjust them again is by taking them back out. The fronts however, is just a turn of a ****. I dont actually keep the ***** on the shocks because there isnt enough space under the plastic flap, so i just keep them in the glovebox and take em out when i need to do some adjusting.

the 2 front koni shocks go inside the 2 front factory struts. so the factory struts have to be cut open, emptied out so that the konis can go inside them like a cacoon. Its just the bottom so that they can mount to the car.
If i look under there i can still see em fine.

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned the Koni shocks are much better than the TRD shocks and Im wondering what that is based on. Have you used both on your car or was it just a statement you were making based on the adjustibility options?

Quality,
Adjustability options,
Stiffer

Actually the Koni's are better then the TRD's in every possible way that they can be except price and ease of install. Believe me I researched both, but since I was looking for the best possible, I quickly put the TRD option aside after comparing them to the Koni's.
No I have never actually had the TRD's in MY car; nevertheless my friend's tC has them, and when comparing the two, the differences can be substantial.

Koni's are around $600 and springs are another $150-$200. Your pretty much into coilover territory @$800. Are the koni's as good as a set of tein basic coilovers? Also if you know anything about autox are both of these setups legal in STS?
