here's a readout of the different tire sizes. the top is the stock 215/45/17, middle is 225/35/20, and the last is 225/30/20.

for the rim itself, it will extend 6mm in and out. this means you'll have 6mm less clearance towards the strut and 6mm more towards the outside. this shouldnt cause many problems if at all.

i'd go for the 30 series, but do NOT run over anything rough. that's a very thin tire and will pop whe shocked by a pothole or something.

^ exactly. It will fit perfectly, but you will have NO rim protection. One pothole on the interstate and your rim will fold up like a taco!

Yeah, the tires will hold up, but the rim wont. I have bent 2 rims and in both cases the tires were fine.

This is what I'm rockin until the middle of summer.

I think I am going to sell the 20s and drop down to some 18s (too many issues w/the 20s).

Exactly. I'm rolling on 20X8 inch wheels with a 42mm offset with 225-30-20 and They fit even with my 3 inch drop in the front and 2 1/2 inch drop in the rear. No rubbing and no bent rims. I drove all the way from NY to VA and back and they are fine. Some people are just parinoid. If you know how to drive , you will have no issues at all If you drive like a moron with 20's then you deserve what you get .

No issues at all with a 3" drop in the front....yeah right . There is no way. You can ask anyone around these parts.

Another thing. No matter how safe you drive, you can not dodge every pothole----- especially on the interstate. If you are going 70 (the speed limit) and you hit the wrong pothole or bump, its a wrap.

I don't want to start a riot, but please believe I am speaking from very deep experience with the tC and 20s. I've had mine dropped on different sets of 20s and a couple of different springs. 20s are alright for everyday driving (except in Hampton, VA "pothole city"), but I wouldn't recommend them for traveling.

Normally I don't really care about petty issues like this, but I don't want someone to go through the same issues I went through.

munch said it............

tires are really well built, the will not just "pop" on a whim, you need to really hit something hard and fast like a pot hole that is 3 inches deep, i have run up to 24"s on my denali running what would be equivelent to a 30 series for a car (305/35-24 front and 315/25-24 rears) and never had an issue........

i think unless you run a 19,20 or above you really dont have first hand knowlege of the subject other then what a freind told you or what you read.
it takes skill to drive a car with large diameter rims and some people have it and some people don't you do have to pay attention and you cant drive like a idiot over railroad tracks etc.

i say run them and be happy

I just ordered 20's for my '06 Xb. I hope they fit. Theyre getting wrapped in some 225/30/20 tires, I just have stock suspension right now, so I dont think I'll have any problems.
