Default 2nd Gen tC Wheels and Tires on 1st Gen tC

Ok I searched and nobody seems to have followed thru on mounting 2nd gen wheels/tires. Obviously the bolt pattern and center bore are 2 problems that adapters can fix. My question is about the max rolling diameter the 1st Gen tC can accept?
From what I have learned searching, 225/45/18's are not going to clear the struts, they are too tall. Am I correct? The stock tC2 wheel/tire rolling diameter is 26 inches, pretty tall. Spacers/adapters are not going to cure this issue?
Someone with a 1st gen tC is interested in buying my stockers, I want to make sure they will or will not fit. I don't want the guy to end up with a set of tires or wheels that do not fit his ride.

If they would hit the struts, which I doubt, adapters would space them out far enough to clear them. If people run 18x10s, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks but tire height is my concern, I know you can shove crazy wide widths under both gens of the TC. I have not heard or seen of a 1st gen. Tc with a tire as tall as the 225/45/18's are. Everyone seems to run a much smaller diameter tire.

Don't most people run 225/40s on the EMX 18s? The way the strut/spring is made the wheel is already past the spring seat so I don't see what it could possibly hit by going up to 45s. And with an adapter there should be even less of a chance. You need to be worried about your fenders, not the struts.

I'm running 225/40 on 18x7.5 +42, don't think going to 45 series should be an issue for inner clearance especially with the wheel going to be kicked out away from the strut anyways. Agree with Jon, it's fender clearance that is the new issue to be dealt with. I'm on adjustable coilovers now and that gives me a bit of extra clearance.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. The 225/45/18 is almost a full inch taller than a 225/40/18, 0.89 to be exact. I agree the fenders are the next obstacle, but I do not think this guy's 05 Tc is lowered. If we get this deal done up, I'll post a couple pics.
