Best moderately priced all-seasons?
My girlfriends tC is in need of new tires and I'm looking to go with a good all season tire since we live in michigan and have to deal with snow all throughout the winter. I know it would be better to have a dedicated snow tire, but cost is a factor at the moment. Rather than reading reviews on tirerack, etc. I thought I would see what drivers of the actual car have to say. Trying to stay around 100 a tire for a good all-season tire. What are some of your suggestions? Thanks in advance for the input.

I saw some H-rated tires from Bridgestone called the Potenza Grid 0019's, I know we have Z-rated tires on our car, but I was thinking of the tread design and snow we get in michigan. Thinking if you went to a greater tread depth, might help with snow.
I have experience with the Toyo Proxes4's and anything above 4 inches of snow they're iffy, but they're low profile, z-rated tires, lol.. Wondering if this as good as it gets?
There is the Goodyear Eagle GT, but some reviews were saying bad belts inside and wore down quick or hard riding. hmmm..
Update: Looking at the BFG g-force supersport a/s are $111 at BelleTire.com the Toyo Proxes4 are $115.
I had problems with the proxes4's but once they were made in usa, they got a lot better (no more defectives). Hope that helps a little.

Lucky for you no snow down there. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 for snow, can get home ok, but gotta go slow. I once tried about 5 inches of snow, but I was plowing with the front end, I turned around and waited for the snow plows! lol

^^I am actually about to try those here soon. I have heard some good things and some bad. Some say they are really good in wet weather others say they aren't, but to me some of those people they say they suck in wet are driving their cars too hard in those conditions anyways. I had the stock bridgestone turanzas and people hated those but I really never had a problem with them. I am not sure how the generals will do in snow though, but there has to be some reason why they got the highest rating on tirerack.

What are your thoughts on these? They seem to be well reviewed on tirerack for an all season.
also, i noticed the tires are ONLY 19lbs a piece! wow! That translates into better fuel economy as well. Less mass to move around = more energy = more power or fuel economy (depends on how ya drive)
the originals are 23lbs, so you can use that as a benchmark. over that you'll start to see mpg's be less. the toyo proxes4's were the lightest i knew of at 20.5lbs (21lbs). but 19.. good stuff, if the reviews hold up and are truthful about snow.
UPDATE: I just read these General's have a 45day trial period. If you don't like them then you can take them back, not bad. I like tires that have a trial period, because it's terrible to get stuck with a poor performing tire.. The catch i read is.. you have to select another GENERAL brand tire, can't go to something else.. oh well then definitely do your homework first. Because i haven't seen that many General tires do that well, except for this one!

I've had a set for about 10 months now and am less than impressed with their performance, dry or wet. Stock size, got them on sale for $75 (iirc) each, but now wish I'd spent a bit more and got something better. I suppose they're a decent price/performance compromise, equal to or better than the stock Yokos and likely longer lasting, but I don't really consider them a real "performance" tire.

2nd the Yokahoma AVIDs. Running the H4S in 205/40/R17 on my 1gen xB. Quieter, smoother and much longer lasting than other tires I've had. Not quite as an agressive looking tread pattern but awesome for daily driving.

those good years are amazign tires, although they wont do you any good in the snow, and they dont handle -camber very well those nittos are decent (sticky wise) and handle well, handle the snow pretty good and are designed for neg camber i have no shakey issues at all its about the balance.

really someone likes the yoko avid h4s? wow.. maybe on an xb, but on the tC no. I had them, they were like driving an old buick, unresponsive steering, hardly any good ride quality. Braking, took more to stop them too. The stock re92's were more responsive than the h4s.
