Best tire for stock rims

oh, i'm not judging you.
one more thing... won't that throw off scheduled maintenance? but like you said, it's possible to calculate the actual miles, but i bet 4 out of 5 people with 225 don't realize or bother or whatever... so good for you.

it would throw off maintenance, but like I said, hardly enough to make any difference whatsoever even if you didn't do the calcs. Like I said, it is more or less 1K miles of the life of the car. I use mobil1 extended performance oil and change it at 5K anyway, so no problems.

I found a local shop that's going to give them to me for 129, installed and balanced. And he promised he'd throw in rotations every 3500. That's only a few bucks more than ordering from edge and having them installed somewhere. I'm prob going to get it done in a couple of days. How often do you guys get your proxes balanced? I've heard in general every 3 oil changes is recommended?

sounds like you got a decent deal, yeah always nice to deal with someone local, in case you have a problem, you have someone to turn to. I got mine locally too, had a problem with the tires, went in to get it fixed, all good now :D

well... i received the e-mail of my invoice right after i placed the order which is automated of course. However, they said right after they ship out the tires they are supposed to send me an e-mail for tracking. I did not receive this e-mail for tracking, so I called today and waited for about 3-5 minutes on the line before I got someone (NOT 1 MIN LIKE THE DAMN AUTOMATED MACHINE STATES!!!!). The person on the line sound like me after a long night of drinking... but he did say that my tires were shipped the day I ordered them and gave me a tracking number, i should be receiving them on Thursday, so we'll have to see....
so far so good! Thanks for asking....

I know you already decided, but I figured I'd throw this out there: I have BF Goodrich G-Force TA-KDW's on my car and I love them. I don't think it gets any better when it's wet outside. BTW they're 215's.

I got my 225/45/17 Hankook Ventus Sport K104's for $101 each w/ FREE shipping and only took a day or two...

It will appear that you are loosing gas mileage, but in reality, it is just that you have travelled slightly farther than it shows. Based on my calcs, when I got 24mpg, it is actually around 24.7 mpg. The odo being off also happens to work in our favor. Over the life of the car, it will read a couple of miles less - hey why not! Extend my warranty! lol

Your math abilities are impressive. Mine don't go past my eleven fingers. What is the "formula" for computing correct mpg when running 225s? Should I just multiply indicated mpg x 103%. Please explain how you arrived at your numbers. Thanks

I'm rocking the Nitto Neogens 225/45/17. Only had them for one day but so far I like them a lot, way better then the stock steelies I had. Feel a lot smoother and have a lot more grip. Tried a launch today at a stop light and didn't even hear a peep out of them meanwhile the Stockies would be screaming. I got mine from Discounttiredirect.com. Great company. Would definitely recommend them to anyone, they came in exactly when they said they would.

Yea, I am a math person. Check out this website.
From that website:
"Speedometer reading with non-stock tire is 1.4% slow.
When your speedo reads 60mph, you are actually traveling 60.9mph."
SO, lets say you do 300 miles on one tank and you fill up taking 12.5 gallons. Your mpg on a STOCK tire would be 300/12.5 which equals 24mpg. Now, if you are on 225s on the stock rims instead of 215s, you must do a bit more initial math. After all, you did not really just travel 300 miles, you did more.
Here is the most simplistic way of doing this math in my opinion. Let's do some cross-multiplication.
60 is to 60.9 as 300 is to X.
60_____300
----- = ------
60.9____X
Cross multiply:
(300 * 60.9) 18270 = 300X (300 * X)
Now divide that 300 out to get X by itself.
(18270/300) 304.5 = X
SO, when riding on 225s and your tripometer reads 300 miles, you've actually done 304.5 miles. Now back to mpg. Before, based on the 215s, we got 24mpg (300/12.5). Now, for an accurate reading when riding on 225s, we must now do the math based on 304.5 miles. (304.5/12.5) = 24.36mpg.
So instead of getting the 24mpg that the math would indicate, you have to remember that when riding on 225s, you are getting slightly better gas mileage than is reading. But only slightly. Nevertheless, the gas mileage didn't reduce for me switching from stocks to toyo proxy 4. If I didn't do the math, then yea, i'd see about a half mpg less, but as we now see, that isn't really the case.
As for long term effects. Assuming you have 225s on the stock rims from day one, when the odometer is reading 100,000 miles, you actually have 101,500 miles on the car. 1,500 difference.
In the same situation, when the odometer reads 36,000, you actually have 36,540. So you just extended your basic warranty by 540 miles! haha!
Enjoy!
