Default BFG R1 or T/A Drag Radial just Fronts (1/4 mile drag help!)

I'm looking foward to going to Englishtown as much as I can this year and like so many other tC owners I'm in search of traction.

Right now I have 18x7.5" speedy rims wrapped in BFG KDW/2 @ 225/40R18

They're great for daily driving and especially nice in the rain. However, even with LSD it breaks loose so easily in 2nd gear, forget about 1st.

So I was thinking either going for the R1

or the Drag Radial

Both are street legal. I hear the Drag Radial kinda sucks in the rain, and the R1 is a killer for sure. Most likely I'll change out my wheels at the strip so I dont have to put many miles on these guys. The R1's are pricey but that really is not a concern being that I've already blew so much on other mods.

Here's the wheel I have now:

Here are the wheels I was looking at as well:

Perhaps in a 15x7" flavor, only weighs ~ 16lbs
Wrapped with 225/50R15 ?

I'd order another 2 of the wheels I have now but the F**KERS stopped production. Argh!!!

Would it look stupid?

I'm looking to buy 2 new wheels along with 2 of these tires exclusively for the drag strip.

What would you go with and why?

of course its going to look stupid but thats because they're for the strip, the strip is about practicality not looks.

you need a lighter wheel dude, get a volk te37 or a forged magnesium wheel. but i think you need to consentrate on your driving because you shouldn't have a problem with the kdw's with the mods you have.

1. go with bfg's, my friend has some and loves em.
2. if you're planning on driving em on the street, dont, cause you're just gonna be throwin out money for more tires cause the drag radials are only meant to last for so many miles, 150 i ithnk it is, before you need new ones.
3. get a smaller lighter weight wheel. 15's or 16's would be good

yeah i'm still open to suggestions. I'd be great to get a little more feedback from the community. I don't know exactly how many people are using special tires for the drag. There are many options it seems, but depending on the brand only certain rim/tire combos will work.

409TC what bfg's are you talking about? Bfg is very broad. The stree tires I have now are bfg's so are the two I suggested.

Deffinetly dont buy them and use them on the street, you will make it 2-3 days and need new tires!!

jeez, I appreciate your attempt, but damn man BFG Goodyear? Thats almost like someone asking what car you drive, and you say Ford, Chevy, Honda damn.

As for this recliner15 guy, enough, this thread was not started to whine about this guy. Yes, I appreciate the warning, I'm sure he's an evil ***** ___ n00b. But still could you guys stop squabling on this thread?

I'd really like to get some useful input.

Thanks.
