Chrome Rims turning black...HELP!
I have a 2008 Scion Tc. I have had it almost a year and it was brand new when i bought it. I just noticed the other day that my chrome stock rims are turning black. They are still shiny but turning black and they are still very smooth. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was from a car wash. Well, i'm very carefuly with my car and only wash it and dry it right away by hand so nothing ever stays on my car. My dad says it looks like the rims had break dust on them and and they were hot and they came into contact with water and the water cooled them down so fast that they changed the rims black. i don't know what it is but i know my rims shouldn't be doing that. My boyfriend told me to try to polish them and to see if that will take the black stuff off. What do you guys suggest? There has to be something i can do to get it fixed. has anyone else had this problem? Thank you!

Post a few pictures if possible. My friend had similar issues and an acid wash typically takes care of it. Post pics first though... we have to see what type of damage it is for a proper diagnosis.

are these stock rims? or are they chrome rims? the stock ones are painted. if they are chrome, like you said, try some metal polish, like blue magic, or neverdull, if they are painted(stock), and a good scrubbing doesnt get them clean, you can try a mild rubbing compound, followed by a polish.
