Default Do I need spacers? 245/45 17 v710 Kumho R-Compound Tires

Just checking to see what yall think.

I'm running them on 17x7 Motegi Track_lite wheels for autoxing. I know these might be pushing the limits with the stock offset, so any input would be great.

245/45/17 is way too big to fit on a 7" wide wheel. i would strongly advise against doing such a thing. the widest tread i would run on a 7" wide wheel is 225/45

Trust me I would never even consider doing it if it was my daily driver wheel/tire combo.
However I'm autoxing, I'm not the first person to put a tire that was designed for a 7.5" wide wheel on a 7" wide wheel for the sake of autocrossing. I'm motivated to try it because the V710 is the tire to have for H-Stock SCCA and Kumho doesn't make a 225 17" right now so this is my only choice. If this doesn't work I'll have to try the Hoosier ($$$$$) 225 17" and not only are they more expensive they don't last a long as the Kumho.

Just out of curiosity, what type of problems do you think I'll run across?

A 245/45-17 is actually designed for a 8-8.5 wide wheel. The chart on Kumhos website states what size wheels will work and then the reccommended wheel size (8.0). If you are dead set on running those tires why not get the track lite in a 17x8. Do you have to run the stock wheel size in H-stock? If so I would deffinatly stick with a 225/45-17 Hoosier.

it's also not just that it is designed for it, but if you were to fit such a large tire on that rim (the tire is 9.6" BTW) you will get tire cupping in the center because of how it would need to be mounted and you will get LESS TRACTION THAN A PROPERLY SIZED TIRE.

Run a 225 R-compound on the stock wheel and call it a day. It will perform better on the stock rim than a 245. If you don't believe me, take some tire temps across the tread of a 245 mounted on a 7" wheel and tell me if the temps are even across the tread.

Solara2xB, I'm not even close to being an xB expert but I know when we first started sell xBs TRD and Toyota told us that the 18" TRDs w/215/35/18 would not rub but the 19" TRDs w/215/35/19 would rub a little with stock suspension. But we never tried 19s so I don't honestly know.

But I can tell you for my test-n-tune around the neighborhood yesterday. That 245/45/17 on 17x7 wheels with stock suspension height won't rubb under street driving conditions. I won't find out how they do under race conditions untill the next autox 8/6/06.

BTW Otocan, I appriciate your input and I completely understand what you are talking about when it comes to getting the most out of a tire. This was an situation where I was able to buy these Kumhos for $410 shipped to my house with only one race of use on them. That's cheap enough that I figured I could experiment untill I know the 225 series Hoosier A6 does not have the same short comings as the model it replaced. I know my chances of using the 245 series Kumho to its full potiental on my car (or any car for that matter) is slim, so it's just something to play around with for now. But thanks again for the extra insight.

So on stock tC wheels a 225/45 R compound tire will perform flawless? What brand do you recommend if they are R compound and some that would perform good but under the tag price of $100, they don't have to be R compound, just one that won't slip in the rain.

I mounted one of my 245/45/17 V710s on a 17x8 and I believe it is to wide a tire for and 8" wide wheel, did not like the buldging center of the tread look!

I wanted to see if I could get by with them on my 17x8 +35 offsets, lowered a bit, autocross tC.

Fronts would barely clear, rears would not, I even bought an expensive fender roller but did not bother trying to fix it that way, need some +45 or higher wheels to clear properly.

Getting those 710s for that price was a killer deal, I would do all I could to get some wider wheels right away so you can get the full benifit from the tires before you wear them out;)

As far as R-compound 225/45 17 concerned the one with the most grip is the new Hoosier A6. They will run you about $219 per tire.

As far is a street tire goes everybody has their own opinions in what they like in a street tire. For me I've always had good luck for $100 or less with Kumho and Falken. Since it looks like you are in Puerto Rico your tire choice and my tire choice are going to be different since I have to worry about snow and ice. If you aren't worried about how many miles you can get on a tire and you don't have to worry about snow and ice, I would be all over the Falken RT-615. You can find them for just a little over $100 per tire.

I agree, for your location the 615 will be the best, if you had to deal with more rain(or if you are out in your rainy season alot) I would look at the RS2(z212) Hankook. Pretty close to the same lateral dry grip, very smooth breakaway, more open so better in the rain, on the dry a bit less forward and breaking grip but a very good tire all around, one of the best I have run on the street. I did like my V700's for street tires but alot of autocross runs and a total of 5k miles may not be what you are looking for.

I have not seen much for feedback on the A6 yet, the V710s where the best and do last longer than most hoosiers but they are both very fast tires.

Be carefull, the hoosiers run quite wide(they seem to fudge the specs ALOT), you will need very specific offset and I would go for a 9" wheel with them, 8.5" bare minimum.

Opps, you can fit a 245 V710 with exacting offsets, I would want a 8.5 wide wheel with them as well, I mounted them one on a 8 and it seemed rather narrow which effects how flat the tread sits on the ground to a degree. They will barely work on our car, +45 wheels in an 8, +48 or more in an 8.5 wheel for offset required, +45 will requite a fender roller most deffinately.

For the hoosiers you are going to have to stay with 225's I am pretty certain.

Okay, so if I decide to stay with the stock tires, 225 would be good to stick with because of the width, and also here in PR it does rain somewhat, so I don't think the Falken RT-615 would be fit for DD here. So any other tires that will run below the $115 would be a good option, the lower the price but still be a very good overall tire, the better.

yeah, 245's on stock size wheels doesn't sound like it will work well.

i've seen rota slipstreams in 17x8.5 +48...that seems the the way to go if one really wanted to run those 245-45-17 v710's under stock fenders.

i recently picked up a set of gram lights in 17x8.5, but they're +40 offset. they stick out slightly more. Right now i've got 225/245's on them, but I have a set of brand new 235/40 hankook rs2's sitting in my garage. 225's clear ok cuz they're just a little stretched onto 17x8.5's, but i think i'll have to roll fenders when i get the 235's on.

here are some pics...

I agree with the 8" to 8.5" wide wheel idea if it allowed me to stay class legal or if I was only worried about something for street use. but racing and I'm forced to stay with the stock wheel size which is 17x7.

I don't have any rubbing with stock springs, Hotchkis FSB, TRD RSB, and Kumho 245/45 17 V710 R-Compound Tires. When I say no rubbing, I mean even in race conditions with high G-loads at full steering lock.
