Default Falken Zeix ZE-912 Review (225/45/17)

Well I got my tires installed today...finally. I figured it would be better to start a new thread with my review instead of continuing in the Tire Poll thread. I'm just going to give a quick run down of what I like over stock that changed, noticeably. The most important thing for me in my buying decision was of course cost first. Then right behind that was Comfort and Road Noise. I don't care much about how good the tires handle when you drive like a maniac or turn sharp at 50 mph so If you buy them and decide they suck when you turn at 50 mph then I don't know what to tell you.

-Noise level
The noise already is much better then stock. Even with brand spankin' new tires they are pretty quiet. The stockers were really loud for me at 60+ mph, these keep the noise down nicely, but it is still there. So don't expect all outside noise to disappear or anything...
-Comfort
Much MUCH better! I didn't know how bad the stock tires were until I drove over a railroad in these. I used to almost break my neck. Now, I coast right over it.
-Aesthetics
I like the look of these tires. I would have liked a more symmetrical look but I think these look fine. Judge for yourself, I'll put some pics up.
-Other
Just wanted to mention that with the little driving I've done with these so far. The turning seems to be more precise and the car feels more "planted" to the ground over stock.

I am running those too, and they are pretty nice tires all around. I will still go back to the Avon Tech M550's, which I had before, when these wear out. The Ziex's are slightly cheaper, and good tires, but they dont compete with the Avons.

What I have noticed about the Ziex is that it runs a bit narrow compared to some tires. The 225's seem barely larger than the 215's I had on before them. The Falken Azenis (I use those for Autox) actually seem to run a bit wide...

Falken RT-615's run alot wider than most tires out there. The 912's are good all around tires for daily driving, not really for performance driving (but they sometimes get you by).

^^ And those of us in STS who cant run anything wider than a 225 are happy for sure about that fact :D

Just wondering why did you choose 225 vs the stock 215s. Traction?

Yep, widest tire that works for your rim is typically a better choice to an extent. If you get the 912's, though, you will most likely see that the 225 is not much wider than the 215's in some other tires. But as I said before, the RT615's in 225 will be wider than a lot of other 225's.

I'm confused I thought 225 WAS the width measurement. How do I tell if a specific 225 tire would fit on the a rim besides that measurement?

225 is not much bigger then 215 on any tire. :/ 225 WILL fit stock rims. The difference between 225's is negligible.

You can look at a Ziex 915 in a 215 on our rims and visually see the difference from an Avon 215.

You can look at an Avon 225 on our rim next to an Azenis 225 and see a noticeable difference in width (the azenis will be wider).

Yes, any tire that says 225 should fit on our rim granted you have the proper aspect ratio. But due to the measurement points used by various manufacturers, a 225 in one brand does not necesarilly equal a 225 in another brand.

And the difference between a 215 and a 225 is 10 mm of width. That is 0.4 inches which is a decent amount as tire width is concerned.

I doubt any daily driver is going to notice 10mm/tire on the road. And I doubt any daily driver would opt for a 200AA racing tire over a 360AA 40k warranty tire. Not sure how the Azenis got up in my daily driver 912 review...I accept the comparison between the Avon's and 912's but the Azenis just don't belong.

If your not looking to get the best times on the track you would do fine getting 215 or 225 912's. Especially if they happen to be the cheapest.

It came up because we were discussing the difference in widths between various tires with the same specs. Wasnt trying to get your review off topic.

Yes, the 912's are pretty good all around tires. But I will say that for snow you will wish you had bought avons or something more along those lines But I dont think you have that concern in FL.

That's why I have both the Azenis 615's and the Ziex 912's...
