I saw the name of this thread and thought I would be helpfull and suggest, "Don't flush until there are no more streaks on the paper"
All serious: When I was in "Fast Four" a SoCal VW club from back in the day, the way we solved wheel rubbing on wide rims and a serious drop was with the car on the ground we would roll a dowel "wooden cylinder" between the tire and the fender. Then again VW fenders were cheaper than replacing a tC fender etc if things go wrong.
