I read this issue, I was surprised that the proxie 4 got the review they did. All online reviews and tC owners that have them seem to speak highly of them. I have mine on the way so we'll see how that goes.

Yea, I run the proxes 4 and like them a lot. Plus, they are for a good price. The prices there are not what the 215 or 225/45-17s cost, the prices are actually higher. But then again, I have only driven the stocks and the proxes 4 for an extended period, so maybe one of the other would do well....

Ive seen the proxes 4's in 225/40/18 (what they tested ) for 115, in 17's at low as 97. Unfortunatly I found these deals after I bought my wheel and tire package and got a little screwed on the tires. How many miles do you have on your proxes?, that tread life rating depressed me the most.

Both the tires I have ran on my car were ranked very well.

Currently the ones I have on now are the Nitto Neo Gens, they replaced worn General Exclaims.

I'd highly recommend either of these two tires to anyone.

yeah and i think it also depends on the car and size of tire that CR is testing. What is good for one car in one size does NOT translate for all cars, in all sizes.
For our car, the Proxes4 is great, It might not work that well on another car. The snow traction on the proxes4's is not as bad as they said. It's more "5 out of 10" kind of thing, it's not bad, but just have to be careful.

But they say the pirelli pzero neros are better? no thanks. those things had a ride like concrete! Not very comfortable at all, smallest bump sounded like the front end was being ripped off! ouch!

does the article say what car and size tire is being used? i couldn't read that fine print in the scan.

also.. i do like the nitto neo gen's.. not bad for $100 a tire!

I agree that the car makes a big difference. I was surprised when I saw the low ratings for the proxes 4.

Sorry, I should've given more information:

The test car is an Audi A3 3.2 and the tire size (and prices) are the 225/40ZR18

hmmm so all wheel drive.. see im just trying to understand how they got the treadlife so low. and yet they're lasting past 15k on the tC.

225-40-18 close to ours, 215-45-17. so it's gotta be the car.

but i am curious about the nitto neogen's on a tC though..

good info spect2k3!! thanks for the post Im going to have to go out and find this month's CR.

300 is the tread rating for the proxes4. Usually the rule is take the tread rating multiply it by 120, and i usually take 80% of that number to guess how many miles the tires are good for. in this case, 300X120=36000X0.80=28800
so 28,800 miles for the Proxes4 in the best case scenario.
