How do stock tires perform in snow?
I may pick up a set of TC wheels with OEM tires for my Matrix. Just wondering how OEM tires perform in snow?
Also, I've noticed there are two sets of OEM tires available - Yokohama and Bridgestone. Is one of two considered optional tire?

the brigestone re92's are HORRIBLE in rain or snow. You'll be sorry, many have gotten into spin out accidents because of them.
Try some toyo proxes4 instead.
I can't speak of the yoko stock, but don't expect them to be that much better than an aftermarket tire. There were two stock tires offered, yoko and bridgestone. Just luck with whatever the factory installed that day, no choice.

The RE92s won't kill you or anything as long as you're a cautious driver in the snow/ice - which you should be anyways. I drove on them for one winter season and felt just fine. The following winter I got a set of Continental ContiExtremeContact and felt a bit safer...
They're just all season tires... so NO all seasons will be great in snow/ice. But they'll get you by if you're a smart driver.

Yup if you dont do anything crazy and just drive like a granny you should be fine. Thats a bit of an exaggeration ofcourse but you get the point. haha When I get some aftermarket rims im gonna get blizzaks for the stocks.

The bridgestones did fine for me last winter. We had plenty of snow and I drove through it with no drama, albeit very cautiously.
I now have nokian studded tires for winter on my stockies but that's just because I got a great deal on them.

my wife ran the stock tires thru a couple winters, and we can get more then enough snow up here. I'd say the biggest issue was the initial traction ( plus she has the extra ponies with sc ) but in all honesty it was very driveable. I'll note that if it was real deep/bad, then i would take the tc as i drive a shorter distance each day, and let her take my FJ which of course is better. Now that we have new tires/wheels for summer, we'll rely on stock 17's for winter until they are bad enough to be swapped out--then we'll run winter tires in winter.
