how to get oem paint off stock rims when painting stock rim?
i was thinkin bout using aircraft paintremover but then someone said i should just sand down the rim till i get to the grey primer and then primer that and paint over it with a clearcoat afterwards.
wats better? remove till u get to metal or just sand down to primer?

just sand it, youll be fine.
you dont have to absolutely get all of the OEM silver off, just start sanding and youll be able to see the diff. between the light gray and dark gray.
as long as you scuff the surface, youll be fine.

black?
where is there black?
the stock rims are gray, then theres like a dark gray underneath, i suppose its dark enough to almost consider black though.
any layer is fine to paint on as long as its scuffed up enough and cleaned properly before paint.
i barely sanded mine, just enough to scratch up the surface, and theyve held up fine.

haHA! you have discovered the secret to our "black chrome" wheels. Much like the dark grey finish on BMW M series wheels, ours are a very thing silver coat on a black base to give them the right look.
But yeah, as long as you didn't go sand down to the bright aluminum you're set to spray w/o needing any primer.

haha, thanks man.
also keep in mind, that after paint is just as important as before paint.
some advice i can give is.
1.)make sure you prep properly
2.)make you sure paint on a low humidity day
3.)look at the weather forecast and try to paint them on a day that is followed by 7 days of dry weather so the paint can cure properly
