I personally love my Khumo's, except the one I got were the ASX's, those are more "stock" looking and to me looked like they would perform better. IMHO, Khumo's are the underdogs that more people should pay attention to, especially since there are the big companies that have had problems with their tires (bridgestone. firestone, etc)

What about the Bridgestone Potenzas. I have 8,000+ on mine and I don't know if I should buy new tires or not. How do you do the coin trick again? Do you use a dime and measure the president's head?

I have 21k on mine, (97% cruising on the highway) rotated at 10k and 20k - they look like they have some decent tread left on them.

Update: my yoko's are now at 12,500 and they are to the wear bars........ well i would have to say these tires are junk but hey its not my fault the tires don't like my rally style driving on backroads hehe.....and i've never burned them off and they are junk already hehe.......

I called the Scion guy at the local delership i bought the car from and he said they will look at it and see what toyota can do about getting me some new tires seems how i'm sure they are rated for well over 12000

The yokos on my tC were POS! The front left started tearing up on the side facing the suspension, then a few months ago it decided to go out and scare the hell outta my mom while on the freeway. So we had to get all new tires.

Well, most tires nowadays have a wear bar. If you feel inside the depth of the tread and around the tire, you'll feel it and see it. It's just a raised part in the tread that indicates where the tire needs to be replaced. Basically when the tread depth matches the wear bar hight.

Anyhow, if you'd rather do the coin trick...Here's the three-step "penny test:"

1. Take a penny and pinch Abe's body between your thumb and forefinger.
2. Put Lincoln's head into one of the grooves on the tread. Select a point on your tire where tread appears the lowest.
3. If any part of Abe Lincoln's head is obscured by the tread, you're driving with the legal and safe amount of tread. If you can see above his head, where it says "In God We Trust," take a hint: you're ready for a new tire

btw, I have about 21k on my stock Yoko's. Drive a bit spirited, and would say I have about 25% tread left. I'll probably replace before the winter is over.

I got 45K out of my stock Bridgestone Potenzas and 10K so far on my Kumho ECSTA ASXs. Plenty of tread left too...

I've got about 11K on the stock Yoko's. I rotate every 5K not just front to back -I do a cross the rear then I swap front to back like in the old days.

My Yoko's don't look bad but the thread is starting to go down and the wear bar is not too far away from the rest of the tread. I put in the TRD sways so I'm sure the extra cornering forces are not helping the tire much...

I would think that 18K would be about all the tires will give me. The Yok's are not all that great on wet roads I can feel the ABS kick-in everytime I push the car into a corner.

I'm thinking of going with the Kuhmo Ectsa or some Toyo Proxes 4. Both of these tires are "summer" tires but for my area I think this will be the best option.

Mine were basically shot at 24K. I could have gotten about 30K out of them, but the winter is coming up.

For those who still have them:
1) As they wear down, they become HORRIBLE even though they are not that bad at first comparatively.
2) I thought they were decent tires until I put on my current toyo proxes 4. It is now that I realize how abismal those tires really are. I never knew what the car could do and I now understand why its called a sports coupe as apposed to a simple coupe. Prior to changing my tires, I thought my dads benz c240 handled better and I have suspension upgrades.

Moral: Get rid of those tires because they are much worse than you probably think....but like most things, this is my opinion, learn for yourself if you all want!
