How to pick the right lug nuts?

I wanted to get some ideas on how to pick the right lug nuts. I've look at the information from tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=102) but it doesn't really help except for explaining the differences.
Basically, if I were to select a random rim, how will I know which lug nut fits based on the information provided online? Some say that stock lug nuts will fit some aftermarket rims. I'm looking for lug nuts for a tC.
Thanks for your help!

the stock wheel lug nuts for the tc are Flat.
I believe most of the aftermarket wheel use Conical nuts.
i use the Conical lug nuts for mine 5zigen fn01r-c wheel.
Never use stock nut on aftermarket wheels

i mean...you guys are proving my point exactly. how the heck do you know which type of lug nuts to use? it seems like for you guys, it comes with experience and extra time on forum, but is there a quick and dirty way of figuring out what will fit WELL? Like, does an online rims retailer tell you "Buy THESE lug nuts with THESE rims"?
Reading stories about people seeing wheels fly out of cars on the highway has me paranoid. hahahaha >.<

EMX Super 7 are the upgraded 18inch wheel for the tc right?
So they are specially made to use with Stock lug nuts.
I got my wheels from Edgeracing when they were still in business. They gave me free lug nuts. so i just buy same type lug nuts with locks.
If you buy new wheels from any wheel vendor or used wheel from car enthusiast , they should know what lug nut to use. ( i still keep my stock lug nuts in the tc, in case i need to put the spare on. )

Aftermarket Rims use Afterarket Lugs
OEM Rims use OEM Lugs
The EMX Super 7's are an OEM option which is why they stil use the OEM lugs.
just be sure that when you order lugs you get the right thread pitch
