Default I need help FAST

I'm sitting on TRD drop. I have 18x8 +38 offset. Tire size now is 225/40/18.

I rub.

I want to put the stock rims for winter and I wanted to get the Dunlop M3 winter tires 215/45/17 (which is stock tire size).

That size is out of stock for the rest of the season.

So I have 2 options:

1. Get the Dunlops M3 winter tires in size 215/50/17 BUT I'M AFRAID OF RUBBING. IF I AM RUBBING NOW WITH 40 I DON'T EVEN WANT TO THINK OF 50. UNLESS YOU GUYS TELL ME THAT THE RUBBING WILL GO AWAY SINCE I WILL BE GOING FROM A 18" RIM TO A 17" RIM.

2. Get a different tire, even though I dunno which ones since I was pretty set on the dunlops.

Thank you for the fast response!!!

you wont rub because the rim is 1 inch shorter. you can do the 215-50-17 but the tire will look huge!

Can you do 215/40/17? Is that an option?

Man, it's so weird seeing 50 series. I'm running 315/25/20s on my tC.

You guys are in cali....
it's completely different here =/

I doubt winter grip would be good with such a low profile as 40

I just checked. They don't have those tires in a 40.

its a winter tire so it will be in 45 or 50, no such thing as a low profile winter tire. again your rim will be 1 nich less in diameter but ull be .5mm bigger so it should be good.

215 is skinny compared to a 225.
40 series on a 18" is about the same as a 45 on a 17" in height.
So if the stock is 215-45-17 and you go to a 215-50...you should be fine....How do you rub with a 225-40-18...I have the same tire size on my RS1 with the S-tech drop and dont have any probs.

I would suggest 225/45/17 instead of 215/50/17. It's overall smaller in diameter and you'd have less chances of rubbing. Though your losing an inch in wheel width and going from 38 to 45 offset, so you probably wouldn't rub either way.

ever since 2 chubby ppl sat in the back
it rubs like a **** when i take dips or when there's weight in the back

so yr saying my 225/40/18 will equal (rubbing issue wise) as 215/45/17

so im screwed.

In the winter your suppose to have thinner tires for less resistance against snow unlike summer tires where wiser is better.

thats why 215/45/17 was OPTION 1, but they are out.

Option 2= 215/50/17

215 is better since it's skinnier, but a 215/50/17 is bigger in overall diameter and would be more likely to rub than a 225/45/17. 10mm wider is not going to make any noticeable difference in snow. That was why I suggested it. If you're set on a 215 tire, just know the size you put on is over a 3% difference from stock, which is usually not recommended.
