WOW

HRE, Dymag join hands to develop costly carbon fiber wheels

One of the best possible carbon fiber applications is being touted to be car wheels. Dymag has been designing and manufacturing high performance car wheels and motorcycle wheels for so many years and now, they have a real carbon fiber wheel in the works. At this year’s SEMA, HRE, one of the high-end wheel manufacturers in the world, announced a partnership with Dymag to develop a set of partially carbon fiber wheels. The new, partially carbon fiber wheel is expected to be developed fully in January next year. The wheel will be available in both the 590R and 890R styles, which boast forged aluminum centers with titanium hardware. Only two styles are being offered, as they are pre-cut to match the wheel spoke pattern. Initially, this carbon wheel will come in sizes of 19- and 20-inches, with the latter weighing in at just 21 lbs.

The rumored cost is between $2,500 and $4,000 per wheel ($10,000 to $16,000 for the set) . The wheels look simply inviting, but the real challenge is their performance on the tracks. For now, you can enjoy some more shots of the carbon fiber wheels in the image gallery.

If its true carbon fiber (either wet or dry..can't remember which one..) wouldn't it technically be stonger than any other wheel? They make whole cars out of the stuff and some cars (lamborghini) I'm pretty sure made rims out of pure carbon fiber.

Its supposed to be lightweight and very durable.

It cracks easier. A wheel will bend. Carbon Fiber will crack and break.
