Default Lug nut lock key help updated!

So I have the scion lug nut lock for my tc. The problem I'm having is that the pattern on the lug nut lock key is stripped and i can't take off the lock nut! I would try ordering a new key but i don't have the paperwork to order a new key and i don't want to buy a new set of lock nuts. can I just take my car to the dealer and have them remove the nut lock and replace it with my old lug nuts? The keys are all the same right? Thanks -Van

a friend of mine lost his key.. you can have em take the locks off but they probably wont be good to use anymore. and im pretty sure the locks arent all the same. they could be, but to me that would defeat the purpose of having wheel locks haha

My key was worn out as well, it woudnt grib the locking lug nut. When I had a flat, one shop used a large umm..thing to take off a bolt, just bigger and he hammered it in for grip, and torn it off. When I needed to get my rotors checked another shop chiseled it off.

So I talked to mcgard who makes our lock nuts and they sent me a replacement but the thing is they sent me the wrong one. I'm getting tired of waiting. So I was searching on youtube and came upon this video. What do you guys think? Will it work? Should I try it?

Yea it would probably work but then your lug nut would be messed up. Then you would have to buy new lug nuts too.

You can go to just about any auto parts store ( I know pepboys has it) and buy a special lug nut removal tool. Usually comes with two adaptors. It will destory the lug nut but you can buy a set of 4 with a new key. And you can alos request an extra key from the manufacture also.

Thats similar to the ones stated above we use these at the Dealer when wheel keys are busted or lost then again we put these on the end of a 1/2 inch IR Impact and they come off with no problem what so ever. My guess go to a Sears,Pepboys or any other auto parts store that sells tools look for something like that that has the twist design and it should take that lock nut right out good luck!

yes sir it will grip the lock nut and dig into it with the special twist design. Yes it will chew the living crap out of the nut... but your getting it off and not damaging any of the wheel stud threads or your wheel at all either. Its how we remove them at the dealer and with the right tools it takes less than 2 mins!

How much does your dealer charge for a removal of something like this?

honestly it depends on who is at the service writer desk that day if it was me id say pull your car into the bay and ill just do it and get it over with. Its not like you need to rotate your tires and or change oil, mount tires you just need to remove your wheel locks? Its honestly hard to answer that bud.... id say just try to go in there and ask if they can get a tech to do a favor and offer the tech like 20 bucks ive had people ask me for small favors before.

Lol i get that alot on here hey i try to help where I can..... my argument with my service writer about small stuff like this is usually, "Why are customers going to want to come back if we charge to remove lugnuts????" Customer Satisfaction should be there number 1 priority not making a revenue.
