Question Need a little moar low, but I'll need new tires

Been searching for a couple days but couldn't figure out the answer. Hopefully you guys might know?

My goal is a little moar low. (1" moar low or so)

Before I explain what exactly what I want... here is my current setup. (sorry about the dirty car / tires. Its been raining like crazy over here)

Jesus to my Rusty Rotors....

so front and rear are the same.

Front: 225/40/18 | 18 x 7.5 +42 | 2" drop
Rear: 225/40/18 | 18 x 7.5 +42 | 2" drop

I'm going to be buying coilovers sometime at the end of the year (BC from meng) I plan to drop the car another inch. So it will have about a 3" drop.

The problem is... if I do that with my current set up. I'll rub like a mother !@#$%. Now... I know there is tons of post on lowering the car with tire sizes etc. But most of the post talk about stretching 215 tires on 18 x 8.5 - 18 x 9 rims. This is something I don't want to do.

I'd like to keep the same rim size 18 x 7.5. I basically want to drop more with about the same amount of wheel gap (give or take) That I have now....which means (in my case) it all boils down to the tire. I'd like to avoid messing with the camber if possible but at the same time I still want to have some tire tread lol.

Based on my research I've broken it down to a couple options but I can't figure out what would be the best.

215 40 18 | 18 x 7.5 +42 (it will stretch slightly but not that much on a 7.5, which is not a big deal to me. Would it be enough? )
225 35 18 | 18 x 7.5 +42 (lower the tread height?)
215 35 18 | 18 x 7.5 +42 (overkill? lower the tread and slightly stretch?)

Any suggestions? Maybe it would be wise to go with 17s? No idea! Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!

What exactly are your 7.5 +42s rubbing on, if not the fender liner?

Right now they rub slightly on the liner with dips and bumps. Of course If I take a turn and I hit a bump or what ever in the road.... It rubs on the fender. I actually have some paint on the fender the tire rubbed off.

I mean some rubbing / scrapping is gonna happen. I understand. I just don't want to buckle my fender with turns.

Nope, I'm trying to avoid that.

I have TEIN Basics..Maxed Out w/ 1 Perch Out..which I believe I am about 2.7inches front and like 2.6 in rear and HellaTucked status too ...On 18x8 wheels 45offset w/ 225/40/18 tires...

I am planning to roll my fenders and add 15mm Spacers too.

Your going to have to roll your fenders and pull your liners if you wanna be in a low club.

Im on 225/40/18 on a 18x8 et 35. lowered on racelands with 2 threads in the front and like 8 in the back. I wanna go lower but i need to do more fender work. I have all 4 rolled and both liners pulled.

I'm planning on throwing some more negative camber for the front. Looking back I should have got the 215/40 instead of 225/40 size, oh well. I'm also running 18x7.5 +42 wheels and eliminated the rubbing while driving straight over bumps and dips by putting a heat gun to the bump on the fenderliner and pushing it in(look where the fender and bumper bolt up on the liner and you'll see).

Hmm.. from what I have read so far, there does not seem to be a solution for you haha. The current tires you have on prevents you from going lower WITHOUT applying fender work for a rub free driving experience. I have STOCKIES lowered on racelands about 10threads in the front and 14 in the back. I honestly rub SLIGHTLY when I angle out of driveways from gas stations.. etc.

I think the bottom line is, if you are planning to stick with that wheel/tire set up.. that is the end of the line for you sir. Please feel free to burn me if I am wrong.

hmmm, i never though about putting a heat gun to the fender liners and pushing them up. That's actually a good idea. Although the fenders could be a problem still.

But I mean... with lowering the tire tread and width (for a slight stretch) I would avoid tucking under the fender... wouldn't you think?

with the rubbing I do now on the liner and slightly on the fender for turns... it really doesn't bother me much. So it doesn't have to be zero rubbing. I'm expecting there to always be some kind of rubbing during bumps / dips.

I'm just trying to avoid a constant rubbing when driving (like driving 0 to 10mph on a flat surface and still rubbing lol) that and a fender buckle.

you will NEED your fenders rolled if you expect a 3" drop period!!!.
sorry i didnt see where you were from, but i know someone near you can roll them proper for a good price. Do it right the first time or you'll regret it big time in the long term, just my .02 cents.

This should help you a bit:

215/45/18 tires will lower you about .15 inches
225/35/18 tires will lower you about .45 inches
215/35/18 tires will lower you about .6 inches

They will also give you the same amount of clearance from the top of the wheel well.

Knowing that, I think this is as close as you are going to get to lowering an inch and keeping the same wheel gap:

If you get 225/35/18 tires and drop .55 inches with the coilovers the car will sit 1 inch lower and you will have .1 inch less wheel gap (and therefore .1 inch less clearance from the top of the wheel well). Should be pretty easy to find .1 inch of clearance by pulling the liners or rolling the fenders.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or missed something

Drop your car, get it aligned, camber set @ -1.5 and you should be good...
