Default Newspaper Rolling Fenders?

Have you guys heard of a newspaper roll/pull? its an alternative method to rolling your fenders. apparently its popular among the 240sx crowd.

quoted from other forums:

"You jack up the car, put stack of newspaper between fender and tire and drop the car slowly. Then you drive front and back slowly. You can shove newspaper as you roll too."

"you grab a stack of newspapers (or phone book), jack the car up, stick the newspapers between the tire/wheel and the fender, lower the car, then have some fat friends (actually, i'm pretty fat myself. didn't really need any friends HAHA) jump up and down in the trunk. it'll push out the fender just enough to fit whatever wheels you have on there, and keep the original fender shape."

The guy who said the 2nd quote is referring the this car

Interesting method. I've done the baseball bat, lead pipe, and hammer methods before on my previous cars. My tC was rolled using a fender roller.

the owner of this car said the rear was newpaper rolled

I have just recently had someone help me to roll my fenders with a roller, and just let me say that if you don't have a heat gun, be ready for chipped paint. I think that newspaper rolling could turn out really good, but you will definitely need a heat gun!

heat gun or not, the paint will chip in the rear since the rubber/foam stip will break off exposing bare metal.

Is there a DIY for rolling your fenders? The rims I want are 9.5" wide and I'm pretty sure when I get them I'm going have to roll my fenders for them to fit, but I'm not sure how to.

i havent seen a tC DIY, but there's a bunch all over the internet for other cars (google fender rolling). There's also youtube videos. its the same process for most cars (tC included).

Do it right the first time. The tools are available for rental with instructions, and the cost will be a lot less than repairing damage if it happens from the phone book method. Try to get several people to chip in and do all the cars at once to cut the cost down.

I can't see how that would work... Seems like it would mess up the paint. There is no cheap fix to rolling fenders.

its news paper and doesnt sound like it would damage the paint, especially if you heat it up plus i cant see it any different then using a fender roller or a pipe.

Newspaper rolling seems the same as a hammer, mallet, lead pipe roll. Hell, I know some people that used wrenches, thick screwdrivers, and even a police baton.

Veering a little off-topic: I know this was probably discussed before, but how exactly did you guys roll the part where the fender meets the rear bumper? I dremeled the rear bumper but the fender part is where the tires rubs.
