Default Ray's Tuner Lugs

Ok I ordered a thinwall impact socket set the other day and it arrived. I currently have ICW tuner lugs on my car and I test fitted the socket to the socket set. There is alot of play in the ICW key.. Using the proper socket I have been hand fitting my lugs and I can see wear on the other size of the ICW key. It has 2 sizes, 3/4 and 13/16. So im guessing since they are cheap lugs that that is the reason the key is jacked up and doesnt fit the sockets well because my factory lugs fit the sockets perfect. So they are cut right. My question is this, which set of Rays black lugs should i go with. I have Konig Troubles by the way. Here is the link for both of the sockets.

Do I need the longer ones? Are the short ones good enough? Here is an up close photo my my rims. I am thinking I need the short ones but not positive. Also I wanna make sure that the key for the Rays lugs are very small so I dont scratch the rims.

they are both the same.. the duranuts are just extended.

i prefer the extended look, however both will work fine. however, the duranuts may work better so you dont have to scratch the paint trying to take off the wheels.

The Rays lugs are on the bigger side so you might have trouble with them fitting with those wheels. If you do get them, I dont recommend using an impact wrench on them, especially on the locking lugs. The metal seems to be soft plus the locking lugs only have a single notch/spline. Not a very good design,in my opinion, for tightening except with hand tools. I had a set of the extended ones and I took my tC to the dealership to have my wheels balanced and when I got the lugs back, some were almost rounded off, mainly the locks. I have Gorilla lugs now and have had no problems.

12 x 1.5 tuner lugs is what you want to look for.

so why does everyone say that they are so great? i ended up buying a set online last night. i have thinwall sockets so im not worried about scratching the rims but that concerns me about the metal. i always hand tighten them down till they get tight then i touch them with the impact.

i wouldnt use an impact gun on these lugs.. or any lugs, you should always torque them down.

however, rays lugs are made of very soft metal,so they are very light, however that is also a safety concern because its very easy to steal your rims that way.

the concern for these lugs is not rim theft. here in the next few months the car will be garage kept for the most part and most likely be driven only on weekends. gonna be doing some serious tear down of the car. my concern is while im doing these mods i will be taking the wheels off and on alot and i needed a set with a key that is not gonna strip out.

as for wheel theft prevention, what lugs do you recommend. these will do for now but i will order another set for when i start driving the car again. mcgards? if so which ones?

i use mcgard classic, but you have to know that no matter what lock you put in, your only stalling time for them to steal it.

if they cant get to it , its guaranted they will break something else out of frustration, i would

some use 1 lock and some use different locks for all 5 or 4. ur preference.

its always a good idea not to use impact wrench as said ^ but its very handy to torque the nut right with a torque wrench

since when has impact wrenchs been bad for lug nuts? arent there any strong lug nuts that you torque down with impact wrenches?

I believe its bad for the ones made of aluminum or a variation of aluminum like the Rays. The Gorilla lugs I have are steel like stock lug nuts so there are no problems when using an impact wrench.
