Oh Im not ashamed of having rotas. I like the way they look and they fit my budget. Plus Im drivng to work and school.. I don't track or go to car shows. It's not like I really need $700 per rim wheels.

Oh and I would have gotten those Works too for the price you got them! Steal man! ;) I think they cost less then my torques.

I agree. But people will always have their own opinions about real vs "fake".

bang for the buck is the argument everyone uses...and its one of the worst ones.

For the price people pay for a new set of rotas, you could buy a used set of quality wheels, usually with tires too.

and im not saying your lying or anything, just kind of curious. What high end companies are using rotas on the track?

most knockoff wheels are heavier than their quality counterparts, so i dont see why any high end company that is actually trying to perform competitively would run them.

^I agree that you can get used high quality wheels for a low price. I did cheap out and buy reps, but I kick myself because right after I had the chance to buy 1. Work CR-Kai's for $1200 with tires, and 2. SSR Prof. SP1's for about the same price. Neither was exactly the size/offset I wanted but I could have made it work. I am ____ed I did that. My next set of wheels will be real. Dont get me wrong though, I run reps and have absolutely no hate for anyone who does.

^Like Hayseed said.
Find some CR-Kai's in 18x9.5 ~35 offset for under $1000 with tires (lol) then you will make sense. Believe me I have looked and searched. CL, stanceworks, stancenation, SL, WFC etc... all the ads for used Works for a few months. You wont find them in that size or color that you want. You're looking more in the range of $2k+ (just rims) from what Ive seen and even at that.. you have to hope that are 5x100. (Or spend a bunch on hub centric adapters and a powder coat if not the color you want)

Yea sure I've seen some 17s with high offsets for ~$1300 in a plain metal but thats not what I want. Yea I could afford them but why get a size/color you don't like?

This is almost like AMD vs Intel. Spend a bunch with Intel set up but get the better machine, or spend a lot less on an AMD set up and get the runner up machine. Do they BOTH still get the job done at the end of the day? Yup.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. It's getting what you want/need and can afford it.

lolol.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-38-all-around

old thread, and doesnt have tires but kind of makes my point. you just got to have patience.

i picked up a pair of brand new still in box CR-KAI's for $300 on CL over here. Granted they werent the best size but they were better quality than rotas.

^ LOL nice find(even though old)! Yea that is a very good deal but probably VERY rare. I would have drove to Vegas to pick them up if it was earlier this year. xD But then you have to buy tires, and I wouldn't be happy with that color so I would have powder coat them. And then you're looking at close to $1600. Granted you have the rims and you can probably save for the rest. It's if you really want to spend that much on some DD rims.

To each their own I guess.

edit: I didn't pay $1,150 for my set. I got them for less then $1000 new with tires. (color/size/look I wanted)

I believe anyone can afford high end wheels like volk, work, advan, bbs, etc... It just takes time to save up. The thing is, no one wants to wait.

Yea.. true. They want it now and at best price.

but kudos if you can find them at a killer price used. Hoodie and Jon both found some works at great prices that I would have definitely paid if the opportunity came around local.

Exactly, ive also read about alot of people buying knock offs, having them bend, dent, whatever and then buying another set, etc etc.

Then realizing they couldve just bought a good set from the start with all the money they wasted.

Also, if you play your cards right, moneys not even an issue after the initial investment.

Buy your wheels used, use them some more, sell them for the price you paid.

yellowxhoodies guide to financial success.

i rarely sell car parts at a loss, most of the time i make money, and i have never sold any wheels at a loss.

and for the sake of the thread... i hate fake wheels, they kill the industry, sure it gives those with shallow pockets some happyness, but at the end of the day, (like its been posted) if people were just patient, informed, and bothered to itemize and spend their money wisely, ANYONE can afford a set of nice wheels... and patience is a rewarding thing. and not hype fake wheel can replace the pride and awww of a well ordered sized jaw droppin wheel...
