Default So, I drove my tC in the snow for the first time yesterday..

...And it was terrifying! I was coming from a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire, so I'm not used to especially sporty cars, but those tires are horrendous! I don't have $500 to drop on decent all-season tires right now, but tires just moved up a lot on my list of things to buy. The roads through northern Indiana were a mess on Sunday, and are still pretty bad today. I had to drive 120+ miles from Fort Wayne to Purdue on Sunday, and there were a couple times when I was on US-24 that I thought I was going to get in an accident for sure...

This leads to me a pretty basic question: recommendations on reasonably priced all-season tires?

blizzak are awesome, continentals are great, hankook winter tires are good too

you have a 5x100 bolt pattern so go on craigslist.com find someone with a used winter tire and wheel set (even just 2 will help) and get a deal if you can. Check your local tire store too and see what they got used, cheap, etc

The 5x100 part is because wheels from a vw will fit (beetle, GLi, vr6 mk 3, etc-not a passat) and some honda, mazda, subaru, etc might fit too.

OEM's suck.. but I drove them plenty on snow and ice packed roads here in MN when I still had them... they are manageable if you drive right. But definitely not the best.

I currently have the 912's on mine right now, and they are very nice, but my previous Avon Tech M550's were much better all seasons. I highly recommend them, especially since you can get them for about 100 a pop.

Blizzaks FTW! I just drove through six inches of snow and seventy some miles of ice on them.

Yeah, I'd prefer to have something so I don't have to swap out twice a year. I'll look into those Avon Tech's and Falken's, though.

I say get tires on your priority for safety and protecting your property..

I just fell on ditch last night driving my mom's corolla w/ oem tires, just a lil bump on a downhill uneven road and the car shook a bit, I steered a little and my mistake touched the brake very lightly and the car went out of control, good thing i got some control back and just drifted the car slowly down the ditch.. weird 2 days ago the taxi i rode did same thing and hit the wall on the highway.. i hate winters now lol

I just got a brand new set of Kumho ASTs off TireRack for next to nothing. My Yokohamas were beyond worthless- scary even in the rain. I'm very happy with the Kumhos, we had snow the other weekend and I had no problems driving.
