I think you should be able to go on ebay and get the cheapest wheels on ebay if thats what you want. lol. Who really cares about the wheels others put on there cars?! I know if I bought crap rims and had a problem that 95 % of the people wouldn't give two squirts... but any ways.. yeah.. I like wheels, with a decent sized dish, any body have any more?!

I used the word investment because you gain a lot more from paying for the quality of a forged wheel rather than replacing crappy cast wheels. Axis wheels aren't bad, but they can't compare to the companies who make forged wheels. If you pay for quality you will be happy. I can't guarantee you will have a negative experience with the cheaper, lower quality, cast wheels on the market, but I can say that you won't be disappointed by the quality of a nice forged wheel.
I see your point. But in reality, how many people do you think actually push their car to the limit where a strength of a wheel would matter? That's why I think people should get what they want, especially when the majority of them are going for looks. Now if someone was into AutoX, drifting (if we could lol), or tracked their car on a regular basis, then I'd definitely tell them to look into quality, performance wheels.

the quality of the wheels you get from these companies is below standards for even your every day driving... example one... pothole + motegi...

konig.... look at the small dent in the rim next to the konig logo... enough to cause excessive shaking... according to the wheel shop who fixed it "these wheels are like butter"

I dont give a crap about what other people buy for wheels. If you want a good quality wheel that is extremely durable and still looks good, go forged. If you NEED wheels ASAP and only have 400 bucks, then go to ebay but when your wheel is bent from a bump... dont come crying back to me....

I see your point guys, and I really appreciate your advice on the wheels

I know there is no way to compare between forged and standard stuff, but there is no way also to compare between eBay wheels and axis, konig, etc

I am ganna look into forged wheels when I buy my set of wheels, but it's not really true that these wheels (axis, tenzo, etc) sucks, they are not the best of the best, but they are pretty good

your volks are awesome
I'm looking at other designs as well

I don't mind spending the extra money if i see that it's worth it for me, and i'll never buy second hand anything

it's just, i don't think i need one of the best set of wheels, i just need something good

I'm looking at 19"s with the biggest lip I can get that'll look nice, that's all

thank you all for the useful comments

You don't need to spend $3000 on rims/tires to get good ones.
And to spend 17% of the cost of your car on rims is a bit of a stretch.
There are plenty of rims that cost 1/3 of that that aren't "butter"
Not knocking your rims - they're hot, but as someone said, "investing " in a Scion is a joke.
There are plenty of cars that can be deemed investments, a Scion of any type is not one.

some of us bought these cars as projects to build on. Scions are great because they are clean slates that you can build into something great. Not having the dealer crap helps make the price low on a scion which is great since when I bought the car I knew I was just going to modify it anyway...

Those who bought this car strictly for it being affordable and cheap will never understand why others spend a lot of money. One thing that becomes quite evident when you are modifying your car is that you get what you pay for and that is proved through the quality and reliability of higher priced parts compared to the cheaper parts.

I don't appreciate you calling my hobby a joke and I really think you should take into consideration other people's motivations. If you truly believe that you are in the wrong place because scionlife revolves around us who modify our cars.

Come on now, you know investing a ton of money in a Scion is tossing out money - the key here is it's not an investment.
I've stated on a couple threads how HOT your tC is.
I appreciate building a cool ride - I've had a few in my day.
But...a Scion is not an investment that will pay off financially.
Look at the threads on the "twins" tCs up on ebay.
Those are nice cars, but will never get the money back they invested.
Don't read something into my statements that are NOT there.
I appreciate a lot of the rides here - they're cool.
I bought a tC for the same reasons - it's a great car to start, and cool for the money.
Do you get what I'm saying???
If you take YOUR statement about not buying cheap rims and apply it to cars, there's a lot of folks driving really killer (expensive) rides that would say the same to YOU about the tC being a cheap car.
So...think before you slam someone for not spending $3k on freakin' rims for a tC.

x2

I've been looking for a project car for a while now and i think a tC is one of the best out there for the price, parts availability, and due to not having any complicated computer crap :D so u can easily modd it the way you want

I'll be spending some big money on mine eventually, and i don't like people saying it is a jook or what ever

if you don't like it, that's ok, just keep that to ur self

and i know that you get what you pay for, i'm just not sure very nice rims will be my first mod, but it's on the list, that's for sure

PlayinWithFire, ur car is awesome, and i almost like everything that's on it, esp. the gold color

So...
"You get what you pay for" applies to rims and not cars?
That makes no sense.
I never knocked you.
I never knocked the tC or those that mod them.
I do think it's funny to see someone post pix of cheap rims to scare people.
I've seen a rim (on my friend's Aston Martin) that got hosed on an LA pothole...care to guess what those things cost?
I get crap at work all the time because all my buddies and colleagues have Porsches, Bentleys, Hummers, Astons, and other hi-end hardware.
I choose to put my money into my house and other things.
Funny thing is most of them love my car.
I could drop a wad on a car, but I'd rather have a house, a motorcycle or two, and travel...not to mention, two kids in college and one on the way.

Where have I "slammed" a car for having cheap wheels? I have stated NUMEROUS times that I don't care what you buy I am just offering my advice on the subject.

Ok. So investment was a bad word choice on my part. I was trying to convey the point that spending a bit more money on a higher quality wheel will be better money spent then that of a cheaper set, more likely to bend because of the quality of the wheel. Now you said that "investing" in a scion is a joke which where i picked up on you belittling those who modify their scions and do work to it. I DONT THINK THAT I WILL GET ANY SORT OF RETURN. How many times do I need to clarify this? I don't do this to make money or any kind of profit once I sell it, I do it because it's fun and it makes me happy.

All the things I say and recommend are from my experience when modifying and failing (a lot). My car has gone through a lot of changes in it's time, and I have realized what really returns the most satisfaction in daily driving and in shows (I do daily drive my car when there isn't snow).

It's funny because 90% of scionlife will read one thing and totally miss on the clarification... please read back and you will see where I pointed this out.

Yeah.. did I scare you? Dude, come on I am just offering my opinion with a little reasoning behind why I feel the way I do. There are nut-hugging JDM tyte yo ****** out there who just preach the god given wheels to the consumers out there, but I am not one of them. I understand what you say about you get what you pay for applying to cars to and believe me... if I didn't modify my tC it would be worth what I paid for it... a reliable car with nothing but the bare basics.

Here are some of your quotes:

"go to ebay but when your wheel is bent from a bump... dont come crying back to me....:

"the quality of the wheels you get from these companies is below standards for even your every day driving... example one... pothole + motegi... "

"those are commpllleeete knock offs of my volks."

Now, those aren't exactly nice are they?
I mean, 90% of the people on here have dumped no where near the $$$ that you and Nebster have on rims.

it felt like a bash to me, but if that's not your intent, I apologize.
I am the type of person that spends a lot of money on buying things that are quality.
I think that's what you're saying too, it just comes off as being a bit snotty.
I think you're not intending that, so let's call it a draw?

you conveniently missed this part of the ebay quote...

I dont give a crap about what other people buy for wheels. If you want a good quality wheel that is extremely durable and still looks good, go forged. If you NEED wheels ASAP and only have 400 bucks...
and one of my first few responses...

I am not bashing people for buying wheels or saying they suck because they don't have Volks or Works or Iforged or something. I am just saying your money could be better spent elsewhere.
If you read the responses (like yours) the majority are saying im full of BS and that cheap wheels are just as good and that spending this kind of money is a waste. If I sit here and say ur an idiot for having kids and that they are a waste of money and time would you take that lightly... i think not :D

Dude, you're wrong x2.

1) I don't think you're full of BS - only that to drop $3k for the average tC owner is a bit, um, unrealistic.

2) You obviously don't have kids - I wouldn't argue that for a minute!

I'm a virtual ATM. Damn kids... ;)
