Default Tire size for 18x8?

Hi guys and girls!

I got a set of Rota P1 18x8, i want to know if it's possible to run either 255/45/R18 or 255/40/R18 Summer tire in the rear for sleak tire pattern looks, 235/40/R18 all season tire will be in front.

thanks...

i'm in the middle of buying new tires or buy a new set of wheels, is it worth keeping these wheel? they're 18lbs each not easy to find.

Why would you want to run that big of a tire on the rear of your car? A 255/45 or even a 255/40 is too large for an 8" wide wheel. It is going to look tall and buldgy and if you decide to go with a 235/40 in the front its going to make the rear of the car taller.

Not only are you going to risk not being able to rotate your tires but running a "wide summer" tire in the rear with a "narrow all season" up front is going to give you terrible handling with squirmy understeer.

All of the tires you are looking at will throw off your speedometer by at least 3% (the 255/45 is 10%) If you want to stay withing the factory tire diameter you are going to have to go with a 245/35/18 or a 235/35/18; Which are pretty expensive;

If you want a flush setup my recommendation is for you to run a 235/35/18 and run spacers all around.

i been running 235/40/18 for 2yrs so i don't want to go with 35 to make my car bumpier and easier to damage or bent the rims, as it my daily commute car to work 50miles each day. so i'm thinking about getting these in a few weeks so in that time if anyone have any experiences or tip feels free... thanks

Front: Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 (W)(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Size: 235/40R18
Serv. Desc: 91W
UTQG: 360 AA A

Rear: Sumitomo HTR Z II (Ultra High Performance Summer)
Size: 245/40ZR18
Serv. Desc: 93W
UTQG: 360 A A

i'm also thinking about putting some spacer on the rear, but i think will need to roll the fender and which spacer and where do you guys recommend to get? my wheel off set is 48, and as for the front my with 235/40/18 already rubbing so i'm not thinking about putting spacer or anything unless i go 225/35/18?

I have Sumitomo HTR's on my wifes Volvo V50. They are fantastic tires. They're priced reasonably too.

i would run 235/40's...no need to get larger tires if you aren't racing or even putting them all around. if you were staggered that's one thing, but you're not...don't try to look that way by using two different tire set ups...you will only hurt your handling and destroy the tires quicker.

as for the front i want to bring out about 1/4"+ inch and for the rear about 3/4"- inch, which spacer and where can i get em? thanks for all great input... as i'm reading many thread i see many peoples running 225 so i probably go with 225/40 or 225/35 in front and 235/40 in the rear with Sumitomo All-Season all around.

If your car is still in riding in on this same stance I don't recommend you use spacers on the front. The tire is already under the fender so by adding a spacer you are going to either ruin your fender or your tire. If you really want a flush stance your going to have to dial in some more camber and maybe raise the car about a 1/4"

Its all about measuring, I doubt anyone on here is using your exact drop and wheel/tire combination. Slap on the tires you want adjust the height and camber to minimize rub and then measure out how much spacer you could run. There is not set of spacer size that will work on all cars.

This is what my OEM fronts looked like running 225/45 Reo1rs with a 25mm spacer

These are what my rears looked like with the same tire but on a 15mm spacer

I'm running the ichiba V2 bolt on spacers. I'm actually selling a brand new 25mm set right now.

I have a feeling you don't know much about tire sizing and the way tire profile works. If your going to run a 215 on a 18" wheel you need to run a 215/40/18. Its going to have a stretch on it btw.

yea... i'm kinda confusing since this is gonna be the first time i'm buying my self a set of tires so i want to make a good choice. and i hear many advices which makes me confuses. one of my two buddy they running 17x8.5 they trying to run 255/40 on it and another guy doing the same. so that's why it makes me wants to go with 255 at first. but looking at my tire now which is 235/40 i see my tire is out further then my lip, so i'm guessing going with 225/35 or 215/35 if possible to have the lips stand out and i can put spacer on them. sorry for my nooby driving u guys nuts... :D

so i took em and threw them on my baby take it to Calderon down the street and had em mount and recycled the old tires for total of $48 bucks
here's a few pix

looks much more better then 235, lips stands out more, so far i feels like the side wall is kinda week, the car kinda sliding side by side, i haven't check pressure on em yet and it'll need a balance before i can really rate these tires.
