Default TPMS question

hi there, just a quick question about 06 tpms. does the car need to be moving for it to work? im asking because this morning i didnt notice that my front passenger tire was flat. i just realized after rolling for a couple of feet but no warning light whatsoever.

Also just to let you guys know..it is set up properly prior to what happened. i did what the manual told me to...full stop..on position..press reset hold..blink..etc. drive.

Is there a good way to check if the tpms is working?....thanks a lot!

Id say to test it... obviously fill up all your tires, reset it... then let the air out of your tires. If it doesnt warn you - id say dealer problem...

If memory serves me right, the 06 TPMS works off of the Anti Lock Break system. In a nut shell it measures the wheel speeds of the cars and notices if one is moving faster then the others.

So yes, you have to be moving (and probably over some speed threshold) in order for the system to be working and valid.

Correct, the 06 and before will only detect a low tire if you are driving. This is how most cars with tire warning lights worked, but in the last few years they have been coming out with pressure transducers in the tires. Anything after 2008 has to have this type by law if I remember correctly. The feds came in and mandated it. The tC started with this in 2007.

^^ all correct info.

also.. the TPMS system may not be able to catch sudden decreases in tire pressure (such as a blown tire)

everything you should need to know is all located in the owner's manual

quick question also...

when refilling the tire with air (w/ no low tire pressure light on), do we need to reset the tpms by holding down the button in our glovebox or we do not have to since the light did not come on?

thanks.

i've never, ever reset mine since i've had the car. when i had the stock wheels on, if the light came on i just pinpointed the tire that was low and filled it back up to spec and off i went.

nope.. not unless it was reinitialized incorrectly with improper pressures... at which then the light will either still be on... or turn on...

if the light's not on... don't worry about it.
and if it does turn on... check pressures first again and then reset it.
