Why do people get staggered rims?

Why do people get staggered rims?
Just wondering why people choose staggered setups when the tC is FWD. Just for looks i guess? Is there any disadvantage with staggered on a FWD?

is there any disadvantage to running 9.5 in the back? Question i'm asking, i'm seriously thinking of buying this used set of rims, but theyre staggered. I really would prefer just a regular size all around, but if staggered isnt gonna hurt then, it's all good.

looks, and "status" some people can't afford to properly maintain wheels like those
the disadvantage is performance, unecessary drag is put on the rear tires since there is more surface area with the same amount of propulsion
many people won't drive there cars hard enough to notice the difference...
the intial grip often to purchase these wheels are also a drawback, but the maintainence required is also an issue.
keep in mind you cannot rotate tires from the front to the back, (it's costs more money to remove tires and switch tires left to right) as anyone can rotate regular wheels and tires...
purchasing tires are also an issue, as the rears are often different sizes... most tire places stock 4 of the same tire, and will often discount the purchase of 4 of a size as opposed to 2...

its for looks. fwd toyotas and VWs have wider rear fenders/qtr panels which allow wider or lower offset wheels in back. fwd hondas dont have this. it all about pushing the wheels to fill out the fender.
staggared also means the same width front and back, but different offsets (1 pair sticks out more than the other). you cant rotate in this case.
some fwd drag & road racers put narrower wheels/tires in the rear for better performance, but that depends on your driving style and car's setup.
you could put the same size tire on the front and back, but you still couldnt rotate them. get a tire size that fits both wheel widths. i wouldnt do this though.

19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 in the back.
strictly for LOOKS, same reason ppl put 24s on an altima or super wide 15s on an xb. ive been riding on these rims for over a year and no serious problems. as far as performance, honestly, i felt the weight difference because of the 19s but any 19 in rim is gonna slow u down. i didnt really notice any difference in handling because of the wide rears. but, im not a drag racer nor an autocrosser, so its not really a big deal to me. i just love how it looks, the stance is very aggressive. also, the lip! you cant get that much lip all around with the tc, why not at least have it on the rears. maintaining it is a pain, but i do the best i can and swap the tires side to side. ive already went thru a set of four tires since ive had these but then again, probly put over 25k miles on it since then. anyways, not everyone likes em, i do. havent seen any tcs with the same setup as me.

the front does not have rubbing issues, turning radius seems to be the same, however i can't say the same about the rear with the rubbing...i'm gettin the fenders shaved as we speak, so i'll let you know when i come back
