yokohama s32a wear and opinions
I did do a search on here before I posted... I've been on ScionLife more than long enough to go by the rules. lol
I have heard opinions all over the web from one extreme to the other.... Just curious to hear rants or raves on the performance and true life-span of the S32A for our tC's. I know I got 44K on the Bridgestone Potenzas on my 06 tC... and I've heard a lot of people being PO'd about a short life-span for the S32A's but I've also seen several reviews stating that some peeps have gotten decent mileage off of them (30-40Kish)

I know that a lot of the tire life of any tire has a lot to do with the driver. But I'll read reviews on several different tire websites...and have seen reviews of them lasting a huge range... from 12k all the way to 35k for drivers that listed themselves very similar on their driving styles. I had the Potenzas on my first tC and got 45k out of them.

A good replacement tire for not nearly the $$$ as the yoko's or potenzas is the Kumho Ecsta ASX's are great! that's what I put on after the potenzas....and wow! those things stuck like flypaper in the corners. And they cost less than half of the bridgstones and yoko's. And are rated with the same tread life. So its a no brainer.

They came stock on my '06 tC and lasted a total of 14,000 miles. It was more actually like 13k, as I should have replaced them much earlier. When new their performance didn't seem too bad, but they really went away at around 8k, to the extent they were VERY dangerous any time I hit a wet or even damp road. All in all I can't recommend them to anyone, ever, for any reason, especially since they're around $220 ea. now.
I replaced them with Falken 912, which seems to be a better tire at less than half the price of the Yokos. Now I don't necessarily recommend these Falkens either, but they're pretty decent bang for the buck when on sale, for those that need all-season tires and don't want to spend much.

^^ nodsetsse.... that is so odd that one certain model of tire would have such a broad range of experiences by the average driver. For me... they suck completely in snow...but on wet roads I wouldnt say they are the greatest but not half bad... I almost cant wait for these to wear out so I can slap on some sweet Kumho Ecsta ASX's... those things are the total bomb for an all season performance low profile tire. and they are half the price of the potenzas or yoko's

and those Kumhos are so sticky you could damn near drive right up the side of a building lol.... and just FYI... they are the exact model of tire that comes standard on the New Corvette ZR1's .... so if this ZR rated tire comes standard on a 180+mph Vette... it should stick our tC's to the pavement.... I had them on my 06 tC for about 5k miles and loved them. And they only set me back about 85 bucks a tire.

I didn't have a problem with treadwear, I have about 22k on them, with plenty of life left. About 15k of that was dropped on H-Techs without an alignment. I even tracked a few times with them at Bandimere. Then I got dedicated sets of snow & summer tires, so I stopped using them.
In the wet/dry they were okay. I thought they sucked in the snow.

I've never seen another model of tire with such varied reviews. Usually its either they totally suck and everyone agrees...or they're great and everyone agrees.
Guess it will be awhile for me...since this is my build project, I've only put 3,500 miles on her since I got her last May.

Being in SoCal I'd intended to get a set of something sticky, not all-seasons, until we had a heavy rain and I got to experience just how bad the Yokos were. On a deeply grooved concrete freeway (where traction should be great in such weather conditions), with rain water flowing across it, I was unable to keep the tC in my lane at anything over 50mph, and it was a tough fight to keep it steady even at 40. This lead me to go with all-season as a replacement, and these Falkens (I paid $79ea) resolved the issue, they're MUCH easier to drive in the wet, I feel a lot safer now.

^^ I wonder if the broad range of wear stories comes from the fact that maybe its not just different climates/conditions they are used in... but wonder if the compound of the rubber isnt as consistant between batches as it should be???
