Default 2014 tC Headlight and Running Bulb size..

Found out this model uses the 9012 bulb which I'm being told is the same as a 9006. Will be upgrading to HID soon. Also did a swap out on the running light bulbs. Replaced with 6000k LED bulbs. Bulb size is same as license plate bulb (192).
Warning on doing so, be careful when putting in. They snag easily and if not careful, the bulb will end up in the lens. Which has happened to me. Still working on a way to get out without taking off the bumper and removing the headlight assembly.

The LED lights, are they Daytime Running Lights? Or do they just come on with the Parking Lights and Headlights, meaning Accent Lights?

If you can reach in from the back of the housing use a pair of tweezers to get it out, just grab it by the metal prongs. I've had it happen before in my taillight.

Yea, that would normally be the case. But these new headlights have so many sharp corners, it was impossible to get with any tool without scratching the lens. The trick was to buy a small vacuum tube attachment for my dry-vac. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the suggestion.

So the low beam bulb size for the 2014 tC's are 9006 and no longer H11?

So I went ahead and purchased a set of 9006 HIDs and ended up having to do a little cutting on the tabs to properly secure otherwise it will not lock into place. Just a heads up for you fellow '14s that plan on putting HIDs.

Btw, has anyone replaced the LEDs in the bumper accent lights? Are they 192/168 in size?

I just bought a 2014 and wanting to get some HIDs in there. Will I have the ability to keep my HI and LO beam with 9006? Is it the projector that deflects the light different or the bulb?

I have the front led accent lighting. but no rears.
Wouldn't mind seeing some shots of the rear lights all lit up!
The bottom center and the bumper reflectors

Thanks

Anyone know if the front bumper LEDs can be replaced in the 2014 model? I believe it's LED strips in there.

I just installed 6000K HIDs on my 2014 tC. I was told that they were the 9006 and both high beam and low beam worked. Seems to be the projector that deflects the beam. The only thing I don't like is that the HIDs
were on the blue side. I was told that it was because of the projector. I also changed the parking lights to 6000k led which match the led lights on the bumper. I am trying to replace the HID bulbs so that all my lights match.

The 6000k Will have a blueish tint to it and is mostly exposed when in projectors. 5000k is pure white.

Thank! ya few days ago I picked up a 9006 kit, and simply shaved a bit of the tab to get them installed. I have the ballasts bolted to previous bolts on the car somewhat floating and not up against anything for less vibrations.
Simply removed the stock bulb looked at it.. ya projector is what changes for hi/lo great idea!

And I wasn't sure about the driving lights so for now I matched them with the signals lights amber! I will eventually replace them to all LED.

That's what I am looking into getting. Hopefully I can replace them this weekend.

I just installed 5000k bulbs. Still looks blue. Output is slightly better. I'm going to try 4300k. I think the best option would be to replace the projectors. My cousin has 6000k after market projectors on his. G20 and his output is so much brighter than mine.

I just installed the Morimoto elite HID system. Running 5000K bulbs. They are a tad blue, but mostly white. The output wasnt what I expected though. I wish I would of got the 55W kit. But much improved over stock setup.

Projectors probably would be best to replace to get the full benefits of HID. Just not into baking my new headlights.

Yeah, they do look a lot better stock. It looks like the projector is separate from the headlight. I could be wrong.

That surprises me. I am looking to get the Morimoto 35w setup with XB35 bulbs. How is the output not what you expected?

And a projector with a clear lens will definitely increase the performance of your headlights. I believe the 2014 tC uses a smaller 2.5" projector lens (instead of the 3" one used in the 11-13 tC). If that is the case, I strongly recommend you grabbing one of these:

It's a relatively inexpensive way to get the most out of your stock projectors. It is also super easy to swap out a lens too once you have your headlights baked open. And don't be intimidated by baking headlights. It's way easy and doesn't damage them at all as long as you do it properly. Only ignorance can mess them up. I had never baked a headlight in my life before installing my halos. The process was so simple.

It just doesnt light up the road like an Bro's BMW 335i. Much brighter pattern.

Nice! That looks like the ticket. I will have to look into that down the road.

Thanks

They are not strips, there's just 3 LED's in there, I had them off the car when i was blacking all the lights out,
so if you go about replacing them post some pictures, it looks like you'll have to bake them to get them open.
