I'd stick with Halogen bulbs on your hi-beams anyway. Like Wellesley said, you won't use them much with the HIDs. All I really use my hi-beams for is if I'm flashing another driver for something and halogen bulbs are more responsive than HIDs.

UPDATE: The HID conversion questions got me wondering (and I'll do anything to avoid doing paperwork...), so I did a little searching. I have 35W, 6000K HIDs in my tC and my wife's Escape.

1. The rules are basically governed by the NHTSA and the law is complex, to say the least. http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_20...cfr571.108.pdf

2. Posts on forums (including Police forums) seem to agree, the laws are too vague and/or convoluted to give you a ticket for HIDs. But if you look suspicious, it's enough to pull you over and say hi.

3. Depending on the state, if you go too blue, you can get a ticket for impersonating a police officer. Sounds like something you'd get because you ____ed off the policeman, not because he's overly concerned about the color.

4. Bottom line, don't assume you weren't doing anything illegal. More often than not, you broke some law. And the more unique your ride, the more you get noticed. And cops work kinda like the Army, if 9 of 10 guys look the same, take out the 1 that's different.

just to confirm, i do not need to buy a separate harness that connects to the power supply/battery right?

No extra wires required. Entire installation took me about an hour. Getting the lights to work took about 10 min. Deciding how I wanted to mount the the ballast took the other 50 min.

And keep in mind, when deciding on temp, something with the tC housing makes the lights slightly bluer than normal anyway. I ahve 6000K HIDs and find myself wishing I had purchased 5000K because the lights are more blue than I wanted...

^ Sure seems like the housing turns HIDs extra blue, but I don't think it'll turn 'em purple. Post up the pics when you get them though! Please...
