Lightbulb Tc2 Ccfl Halos: Just a feeler

Hey guys, just throwing this out there as a feeler. How many people would be interested in doing their headlights with single or dual Ccfl, single or dual led halo rings? Me and a buddy are thinking of doing these. Just wondering if anyone would be interested. Post up if your even just a little bit interested.

^^That's where I got these 9 months ago. I was part of the first group buy.

I don't know if they still make them. I heard the company had issues.

TRS sells COB Rings (Chip on Board) these will be brighter and come on instantly. The website only lists Amber and White but they can special order different colors, though anything else is illegal.

If your going to bake open the headlights you might want to get the "Black Series" Clear lens to replace the frosted OEM lens installed, clear lens will sharpen the cutoff and provide more light from your HIDs.

That clear lens looks awesome! I wish I would have seen it when I installed my halos. I don't feel like re-baking them again

Yes, risky baking them open again. If someone were to contact Matt at TRS and ask for a black series lens for some comparison pics, TRS likes to show off the change from Frosted OEM to Clear lens. Tell him Will Davidson sent you they might discount a set.

Why is it risky baking them again? Just simply because they won't seal back up as tight and get some condensation? Is it possible to just purchase more sealant?

Exactly, the risk is getting the seal correct again to avoid moisture, TC1 headlights are really hard to seal up, haven't done any TC2s retrofits so I can't say if there any better. TRS does sell sealant pretty cheap though if you need it.

TRS also makes a Morimoto MH1 quick retrofit kit for the TC2, but it uses the H1 aftermarket bulb which is still a problem. OEM D2S HIDs are far Superior in quality and alignment. OEM anything make a world of difference when it comes to headlights!

In your opinion. Mini H1 kit vs. factory projectors with the clear lens you linked. Would the Mini H1 be THAT much better (besides the fact that it's bi-xenon)?

I have a 2007 GTI and I did a complete retrofit, Color painted shrouds, clear lens and shield modification. it was a mission to get a sharp cutoff. On the GTI you can remove the projectors from the back of the headlights making easier to run sevral aiming and focusing tests, On the TC however, once the headlight is sealed you will have to reopen it again to make any adjustments.
I been looking into doing halo rings and upgrade to clear lens but here are my concerns
1. Will the clear lens installation require shield modification and aligment? or do the lenses just snap in?
2. Not sure if CCFL is the way to go. I been looking into LED rings instead since they last longer.
3.Not sure the exact diamaeter of the Halo rings. Does anyone know the right size please fill me in...

I also been wanting to open the headlights and somehow create an exact LED running light just like the LEXUS IS, I been looking for the right color LED and trying to find a way to create some LED reflectors to fit inside the TC headlights.

yea I did my Halos they are multi-color LEDs and I think they are way better then the CCFLs.

for which ring do you need the diameter?

and about the resealing, when I did mine I opened and resealed mine 4 times and I just put extra silicon to make sure they are sealed right and have never had a problem with them =)

Really hard to answer that honestly since I haven't worked with the Bi-X MH1 or the TC2 halogen projector, but for ease of use stick with the halogen w/Clear lens upgrade and get some good HIDs. This saves the alignment factor when you achieve a sharp cutoff, it's not easy getting both beams to align properly. TRS has 2 styles of the H11s HIDs now that are much better then most other aftermarket HIDs you can by at a cheaper price. You might wonder why I keep referring to TRS? Well they're here in Atlanta so I have hands on access to alot of products for testing. I started with my OEM headlights installing the DDM Raptor kit, replacing the bulbs with eBay crap and so on, Only to learn that the quality and alignment of rebased HIDs matters!!
Unless you want retrofit OEM projectors or spend the money to have someone retro for you I would just do the clear lens upgrade and buy some good HID's bulbs and call it a day.

The clear lens will just snap into place and the alignment will be perfect. No shields mods are needed but you might as well close the squirrel finders to avoid the glare.
2. Not sure if CCFL is the way to go. I been looking into LED rings instead since they last longer.
COB LED rings will be brighter and wont require the inverter, they however have a voltage regulator puck.
3.Not sure the exact diameter of the Halo rings. Does anyone know the right size please fill me in...
Not positive but it should be around 80mm-90mm.

Might want to try heading over to HID Planet LED Forum for some help on LED selection, heat dissipation, and voltage regulation. There's 4-5 experts over there that I sure would help, just learn the basics from the sticky's before requesting help.

Team318 used a 90mm I believe, but I used a 80mm for mine. I have Muliti-color Led Halos though if you want to check how they look heres my build thread, hope it helps

Thanks for that reply. That is the answer I was expecting. I have been running a 55w DDM Raptor set since 01/2011 and it is beginning to show its age. I definitely plan on ordering a Morimoto 3Five set once the Raptors get closer to their death. I'll pick up the clear lens pair and some seal at the same time and do things right

Quick question though, I see there is an option for a spacer tuning kit with that black series lens. What is that for?

I want halos but to bad someone wont make a whole headlight kit to where we don't have to bake them and do them ourselves. we should be able to pop stock headlights off and put new headlights with halos on. id buy them(just a thought)
