6th gear noise on highway (M/T)
I'm hearing what sounds like gear noise when on the throttle in 6th gear on the highway. It's not very loud and isn't like the noise like 1st and second gear make when decelerating; it just sounds like gears spinning together if that makes any sense. It's not very noticeable but it goes away when I get off the throttle so it seems to be load-dependent. Has anyone else noticed anything like this with his/her tC? This is my first manual transmission car so I don't know what's considered acceptable and what isn't; none of my previous cars have made any transmission (or other strange drivetrain noises) at all.
Also sometimes when shifting into 2nd from 1st I hear what's sort-of a clunk noise coming from the transmission when I move the shifter into gear. Does this sound normal to you?

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about 6th gear. Does it happen on the 4th and the 5th gear also? Or is it only the 6th gear?
As for the 1st to the 2nd gear clunk noise, it didn't happen with the other cars I had, but my tC makes that noise too. It makes less and less of that noise as the car gets broken in, but mine still makes that noise once in a while at 2500 miles on it.

I know the noise you're talking about. Its actually road surface dependent. Smooth asphalt (sp?) seems to cause the most noise. It's nothing to worry about. I have over 8k miles on my car, all but maybe 1500 are freeway miles. Go 80+ mph for 12 hrs a day for a few days and the car makes all sorts of creeking noises.

Yes I Have heard the noise as well its speed related.... Like ill be driving and just have fun with the noise.. say 65mph... hit throttle (makes noise) instantly let go of throttle (noise gone) then if you tap the throttle on and off the noise goes on and off.... very odd.....

I hear that noise as well. To me, it kinda sounds like a ringing, or humming noise. For me, it does it in every gear. 1st gear and reverse have their own gear noise.
I never noticed that noise when I first bought the car brand new (5k miles ago)
I test drove a 2011 tC with 3 miles on it to see if the noise was made on a brand spanken' new car, but I did not hear the noise. Only the noise of 1st and reverse.
My noise can be made when i barely press the gas, if i press the gas with some moderate to high acceleration force, I do not hear it, when I left off the gas, I do not hear it. Only light acceleration.
Also, why does 1st gear make that whine by the way?

I took my car into the dealership after my Short shifter install and asked about that even had the mechanic take a spin with me on the Highway he obviously didn't hear it but looked at the engine/tranny and said everything was tight, still a little unnerving at first though
