Confused about Sport Mode
So Ive a 2013 tC Automatic. Why is it that when I go sport, it says is on 4th gear? Is there any way to set it that when I got sport in 2nd gear, it says 2? Also been in sport means I control the shift, well sometimes I shift and it doesnt shift, it shift after the revs get higher. :S Or maybe is me? I dont know.

4th gear is what the car is currently in when you switched it to sport mode. pretty sure 4th is the most common gear on the automatic transmission when normal driving, so odds are that when you slap it to sport, it will be on 4th. also, the sport mode is a bit sluggish. there's a short delay when the gears shift. pretty sure i'm correct. this is all from experience so someone correct me if i'm wrong haha

I'm pretty sure that 4th gear is just used for the safety of the transmission and engine. My reason being that if you were driving at a high rate of speed and switched it to sport you would probably damage something if it put you into 1st gear. I don't have the automatic, but any toyota I have driven with slap shift has always gone straight to 4th gear when put into sport. That applies to both 5 & 6 speed

Ohhhhhh ok. Well my tC has the paddle shifters equipped and if Im on D and hit the low shift paddle, it changes to manual but doesnt lower the shift and there I can keep up shifting up and down depending on what I am doing. And if I do that and change it to sport then it would stay on the gear that Im currently in. Weird huh? xD

They all start on 4th gear, whether you just start it or not. There's nothing wrong with it.

An answer for you
I drive the 2011 scion tc. It is also an automatic and the sport mode is the sequential mode. I drive in sequential all the time. The reason why it automatically switch is so when your going at a higher rate of the speed and put it in sequential it goes to fourth gear so that you don't blow your tranny because in 4th gear it can go up to bout 120 or something crazy like that. Idk check your manuel for speeds. Also if your going like 30 or something it will go to third gear. If your doing sequential and wanting to gun it right off the start. 1st gear will get you to 30, 2nd gear will get you to 60, 3rd to 80, 4th up to like 110 or something. and the max allowed speed for 5th is 125 (claimed in the manual.)
