Rod Knocking??!?
So I was driving home from class tonight, and all of a sudden I heard a loud tap tap tap coming from my engine. I was praying that it was an exhaust leak. I got home and opened my hood, and listened for where the noise was coming from. Clear as day, it sounds like rod knocking. I checked and made sure it had oil, because I know that low oil can cause it, but the oil was full. I don't have any engine mods, all i've done is painted the Engine Cover, but I dont see how that would relate to it. I'm taking it to the stealership first thing tomorrow morning to see how they try and screw me.
Any info or experiences with this would be awesome, because I'm super nervous about if my factory warranty covers it. Not to mention it's a Certified TC, so I have a 100,000 powertrain warranty. I only have 13,000 miles on it

If they find it to be rod knock, and you have no engine mods, they should repair/replace the engine under warranty. The powertrain is covered for 5 years or 60k miles, which ever comes first.

Finally got my car back from the dealership thismorning. They replaced a bunch of lifters, cams, some random assemblies, and like every gasket and seal known to man. All in all, it would have cost me $4200 if I didnt have my warranty O_O
Moral of the Story: No Extensive Engine Mods for me until my 100,000 mile warranty is up!

I know this is really old but just a quick note,
There are little rubber o rings under your valve cover that are meant to seal when installed. If u look under the cover you will see metal lines with pin holes in them. When you reinstalled your valve cover those o rings weren't there. So when your motor ran those o rings seal so that the oil lines in the valve cover can squirt oil directly on the cam. In short you starved your cams of oil resulting in massive valve lash and scarring. I'm surprised they didn't replace your entire head
The reason I mention this is because I did the exact same thing except I did very little damage resulting in $165 service fee. Your dealership is pretty nice considering Toyota knew exactly what I did when I pulled up and didn't cover it.
Make sure you replace the o rings on the valve cover for the oil squirters. !!! Lol
