Default Weapon-R SRI

I don't have much information on it yet besides a picture and that it's being released on May 1st. It is a SRI and I believe Weapon-R has a ram-air kit available (ram air kit is a plastic hose which connects to the top of the SRI filter and leads to the wheel-well area so it is more comparable to a CAI with a by-pass valve).

I'm not sure I am allowed to post the picture, so I won't post it yet, but from the looks of it, the piping looks the same as the injen SRI except with a Weapon-R filter.

nope, i gotta call em tomorrow to ask. I thinking of getting one before release so I'll let you guys know. As long as it isn't above $250 I'll probably get the weapon-R instead of the injen.

ok here's a pic that I received from Weapon-R.

The price they gave me was $225 for the intake. I am thinking of getting this intake along with Weapon-R's ram-air kit. Comparing with pictures of injen's SRI, the weapon-R is shorter. Not sure what kind of effects the length is going to have..

That looks...well...cheesy.

For that kind of coin I want substance and cheese just isn't that filling on its own.

Injen spoofs the MAF sensor and TRD isn't even a conical filter. Only other intake currently available (that I can remember anyway) is the Takeda at $280+ and they're claiming crazy numbers (11hp & 11tq) that I find... questionable.

I guess it doesn't look very substantial but the tC2 doesn't really give much space for SRI's to begin with. I don't know what weapon-r's reasoning for it being shorter than injen's is; perhaps it's for weapon-r's ram-air kit (tube that attaches to top of filter and leads down to wheel well area). right now it's injen vs weapon-r for SRI and I think weapon-r has the better intake since I would guess injen just took the CAI and took off the bend and called it a SRI while weapon-r's is solely a SRI. Perhaps all this isn't even worth arguing since the gains are relatively minimal, but i want my torque back in low rpms!

All intakes do nothing. For anyone that is buying it expecting it to be night and day from stock, I'm sorry to say you will be disappointed in your findings.

For example:
http://www.aemintakes.com/dynocharts...-1401_dyno.pdf

Notice the "9hp" is made at 6400rpm? That's useless.

Your bottom end wont benefit from intaking more air. Its rarely proven and when it is, the stock system is ridiculously restrictive or the car has a lot of top end work done. In the case of the tC, its not as restrictive as everyone thinks.

Now, am I saying don't get a CAI? No. I love the look and sound just as much as anyone else, but I don't want anyone to get the impression that this will be like the NOS button reaction in F&F when you push the throttle.

Buy for the improvement in fuel mileage and smoothness in driving, not for the wild performance figures posted.

Well yea, I understand that an intake isn't going to provide night and day changes, but are you saying that an intake will have less effect than the exhaust? Because the descendant exhaust's effect was easily noticeable since my rpm's went up by 200 when doing daily driving (<3k rpm) I did notice that I did gain power after 3k rpm because when cruising on the highway at 80+ mph, the revs were lower than what they used to be.

You might try the fog light area if you don't have fogs installed.

I did a thread about how if mafs is close to the filter you loose power let me know how the car will drive on the street if this theory applies to the TC2

I have fogs installed so I might just route it to the area where CAI filters sit.

^ do you have a link to your thread? I ended up ordering the intake and I'll give you guys a review of it, but this is my first car and first intake so I won't have anything to compare it to, unfortunately. The only thing I would be able to compare it to would be the baseline stock tC2..

well I had a read on your thread and from what I can tell, one of the 'conclusions' you got was that a SRI without a velocity stack will give bad readings on the MAF due to turbulent air flow. I believe Weapon-R features a 2-tube design on their secret weapon intakes, so hopefully it'll work as designed and not cause faulty readings.

When I spoke with WR yesterday, I asked whether the intake has been tested, and they assured me that the intake has been tested on a 2011 tC and no CELs have come up which is my primary concern.

k. it came in today. install was a bit of a pain in the ___ since it doesn't come with any directions and the adapters are hard to put on but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too bad. can't really tell much differences yet and can't really hear it either since I have the descendant exhaust. Reset the ECU during the install so I'll report back in a week if any improvements have come up. I also got a free Weapon-R Ram Air Kit which hasn't been installed yet since it was getting dark. probably will end up putting it in the wheel well area. Might have to take off the bumper to secure it so it doesn't just bounce around. Here are some pics:
