Default How To Do A Custom Door Panel

So I've had a few request on how I did my door panels. So, here's a quick write up on how get at it and get CUSTOM! haha

THINGS YOU"LL NEED!!!!
  • Philips screw driver
  • Flat head screw driver
  • 3M Adhesive spray
  • Painters tape
  • Some sort of old card I used an old season pass
  • Scissors
  • YO FABRIC!

So Lets Begin!

Here's the final product in my car!

So first off is removing the door panel which is surprisingly easy!

Pop this bad boy off! I just used my hands it's not too bad. I'd suggest not scratching the plastic by using a screw driver, but it's your car do what you wish!(this applies to popping all of the trim off)

Next the side mirror cover!

Then the handle trim! (ok you'll have to use a screw diver for this part...)

Now remove these three screws!

Now the controls pop out and disconnect!

Now you can slowly pop the whole door panel away from the door! (sorry no photo for this...) Go slowly! I started in the bottom corner to the outside of the door and worked my way in, up, over, and back down. BE CAREFUL because the tweeter is connected to the door panel and has to be disconnected!

Here is the disconnect for the tweeter, also the handle will just slide out here too!

Now The Fun Stuff!!!

So I started by tapping off all around the fabric area! Now if you're like me and Armor All your tC the you'll have to wash your plastic to get the tape to stick!

Then cut your fabric a bit bigger than the area!

Now you have to be quick with the next step! I'd practice the motions without the spray to make sure you can be quick and accurate! I say this because the spray I got gets tacky in like 15 seconds... and if you don't lay it right and miss you'll have a crazy F-ed up sticky mess... so yea I learned the hard way haha

So now that you're ready spray the exposed fabric on the door panel generously! Then quickly remove all the tape and drape the fabric over the area and use your card to spread firmly over the old fabric! I started in the center and worked out!

Then you can start tucking!!!
Use a corner of your card to slightly tuck in the fabric between the old fabric and the plastic of the door panel! I started in the middle of the top and worked towards the back, down, over, and around!

Then trim the fabric roughly a half to a quarter inch away from the panel!
I left some extra where the controls go because it'll get covered anyways.

Now you'll have to get down and dirty with it and really TUCK IT! Use your card and jam the remaining fabric between the crack in the plastic and the fabric! In some spots it'll feel like it won't go in... but it will haha

NOW YOURE DONE!!! WOO!!

Just reinstall everything the way it came of but in reverse!
