Biglilsteve - now that i've found a type R sub for about the same price as a type S ill end up getting it im sure. but i want the cheapest smallest box possible for the Type R, because thats my dads big worry about me getting a sub is because it'll take up most my trunk space.. and does anyone know if you can sit the amplifier on top of the box or will the box rattle it too much..?

1 cubic foot sealed box: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...1.0-Black.html
Amplifier, depending on its footprint, can be hidden underneath with the spare tire and jack. I know a great many people that attach their amp directly to the box. I personally do not because I'm paranoid and I just plain don't like the way it looks. Wiring brand won't make a huge technical difference, if you're on a strict budget cheap wires are just as good as expensive ones.

+1 on the wiring decision. Just make sure the gauge is 4 or larger...everything else is whatever.
Here's my setup. It's a 12" in a 1.25 cubic foot box. I don't really feel like I'm missing out on too much trunk space. Your box would be an inch or two smaller.

I just checked the specs for the 10" Type R...optimum sealed enclosure is .6 cubic feet gross.
You could and should go even smaller and cheaper:

Ohh yeah that is cheaper WOW!! and are you sure .6 cubic feet is big enough? remember im not getting the slim type R im getting the 1043D or whatever.. THIS: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...zilla_cse#tabs

Yup, go to that page you just posted a link to and click the "Features & Specs" tab. You will see the minimum enclosure volume is 0.5 and the maximum is 1.0.
And if you go to Alpine's website and pull up the owner's manual for your sub, it lists the optimum sealed enclosure as being 0.6. The closest box that sonicelectronix has to that is the one I linked to above which is 0.7. It should be very good since it is almost right in the middle of 0.5 and 1.0.

can you now help me find an amplifier that will power the sub best in the .6 cubic ft box and that has a bass/gain remote, because id like to have it. and at a fair price. and i want it to last a long time so its gotta have a good cooling system and not break anytime soon and if its a known brand that'd be great.

too bad you didn't still need a type r and a sub box, im getting a new box made friday and then i woln't need it anymore. its an awesome box, fiberglass fits in finderwell, .88 cubic feet air space. black carpet to match oem carpet. the only thing that sucks is the sub hits so hard i have to strap it down. the box only weighs 6 lbs and obviously the sub ways quite a bit more. haha. you have a 2nd gen duh, never mind.
