Programming automatic door lock at speed.

Programming automatic door lock at speed.
I've got a 2011 tC, and it says in the owner's manual that if you want to set the door locks to automatically lock when the car reaches 12mph, you can set this yourself by turning the ignition switch to 'on' and then within 20 seconds, holding down the lock or unlock side of the switch, and it should register and then lock and unlock the doors to confirm you changed the setting. I tried this several times and nothing happened. I know there are some functions only the dealer can set via the computer - but this is not supposed to be one of them, according to the manual.
Anyone else try this?

I've also got a manual and it worked out for me. I think the trick is to press the button within 10 seconds. When you hold the lock button hole it for exactly 5 seconds. Any more it will not work and once you release it should lock and unlock to confirm that it worked.

Thank you. I did finally get it to work this morning. Not sure what I did, but I tried it with all sorts of variations - clutch in, clutch out, waiting more than five seconds, etc. Seems like it is VERY particular about the seconds and there may be an issue with the sensor being very touchy in the transmission. I wiggled the shift lever back and forth in neutral, and it was then that it worked.

Haha yeah it took me multiple tries to get it going. Which sucked because you had to turn your car on and off and drive off for a bit after every try. I'm sure some people thought I was crazy. Glad you got it working though. Didn't even know our car had it until I read your post lol thanks!

I have an auto and I programmed my tC to lock at the 12mph. It took me a while to actually get it to work because I noticed you have to "cancel" the first setting before you can set-up the new lock setting that you want.

Great Info! I just did this to my manual 2013. You DO NOT need the clutch pushed in. i just turned the key to on, waited approx 7 seconds (when all of the start up beeps stop), then held the lock button for 5 seconds and released. Make sure the car is in neutral and the door is closed. I did have to drive around the neighborhood a couple times. For some reason after every failed attempt, the car needs to be driven down the street before the next. I also made sure the car door was unlocked before every attempt ( Considering the door would normally be unlocked every time you get into your car to go for a ride.)
