Breaking In + Engine Oil Change

Breaking In + Engine Oil Change
Just had a quick question about breaking in the car since I'm nearing the 1000 mile mark. I read the owner's manual and it says do oil changes at every 5000 miles while reading online forums have people saying it's better for the engine to do an early oil change at around 1000~1500 miles and then proceed doing regular oil changes. For those who have already exceeded 1000+ miles, I was wondering what you did for your tC. Also, something interesting to note was that while looking at the owner's manual, it said that if you use 0W-20 oil, you can change the engine oil every 10000 miles? I thought the norm was around 3000~5000 miles between every oil change.
Thanks,
Donald

just do your changes every 5000 its not very good for your car to change the oil to soon do it either on 5000 or a little before but never as early as a 1000-1500 thats way to soon in my opinion. i do toyota synthetic every 5000 and it works great in my car and every other toyota i have ever owned.

3k oil changes work great. After I blew my motor and took it apart it looked in perfect shape; minus the cracked pistons. There was no deposit buildup or heat marks anywhere and the bearings were in perfect condition, like not even light scratching.

Now to say its not very good for an early oil change is false! Yes it may not need it but it in no way does anything bad or harmful. I do it early do to a new engine breaking in and I want to get synthetic going in there. Now is it necessary, No! But i like that extra piece of mind. Plus its not expensive to do. I have done this on all my vehicles and no problems. I drive the crap outta them after a few hundred miles as well! Gotta seat those rings and let the engine see the full RPM range.
I run synthetic in my rides (Pennzoil Platinum) and either Bosch or Purolator filters. I do an oil change every 5-6k miles. Maybe it could go more but like i said i drive my vehicles hard and i deal with salty, sandy, and hot conditions down here. Plus again that Peace of mind! Oh and not the crappy Toyota peace of mind! You guys doing 3k oil changes have bought into the marketing from places like Jiffy Lube. Changing your oil sooner than what the maintenance minder or owner's manual tells you is akin to throwing money down the drain. A lot of people like to get the factory oil out sooner (which I don't know whether or not yields any benefit) but all subsequent oil changes should be done at the recommended interval.

We are in the old mindset of non synthetic oil actually. It is deffinently not some conspiracy bud, calm down. Synthetic oil can go well past 5k miles, but we would rather be on the safe side and get all of the deposits out of there asap.

I'm perfectly calm; I'm just trying to save you some money. If you want to waste your money then go for it but it's completely unnecessary.

My dealer told me that the oil change is necessary only every 10k miles.
I think the manual (or whatever paper) says to bring the car in for maintenance every 5k, but oil change will only get done every 10k.
5k and 15k and etc will only be tire rotation and minor checks.
That's what the dealer told me, but I don't know if that's true.

So-far I have spoken to several dealers and each one has told me something different. In your warranty book there is a section that has it listed. I would follow that or change it sooner.

Ok, guys. the 2011+ tC and 2010+ xD uses full synthetic. Scion recomends changing the oil every 10,000 miles, with regular service done at every 5,000 miles (Tire rotations, checking brakes, etc.)
I am currently at ~5,600 miles and I decided to switch to Amsoil, so I had them change it during the regular service. I wont have them change my oil again till 15,000 miles.

Scion recommends 1000 miles. But over 500 and you'll be fine.
They put full synthetic in them from factory? Wow didnt know that. Also I think its unnecesary for the majority of people. But hey toyota does the oil changes for free for the first two years now with there care plan stuff. But they will be making money on those who dont do the change themselves I am sure as they will probably charge 60 bucks or more for full synthetic.

F*** what the dealer says. i do my oil changes every 3k miles....if i waited 5k miles to change my oil like the dealer told me i would most likely have anouther blown motor and im positive about that...i drive highway miles every day and people in SL will tell you that are motors consume oil or burn oil however you want to say it. sometimes my oil is even low before 3k miles. and my built motor runs perfectly fine ...and im using 10w30 castrol gtx btw. i rather spend a few dollarson oil and not thousands.

I have been using 5w30 Mobil full synthetic for as long as I can remember. Changed it every 5k, all of my cars engine's went over 100k with no oil burn off. The oil comes out very clean even at 5k miles. Never had any kind of engine problem.
My Tc is under the 2 year free scheduled maintenance deal, so I of course will take the free synthetic oil changes for two years....
