My gas mileage sucks..
Could a bad break in of the engine cause horrible gas mileage? I was getting like 27-28 city now I get like 20-22.. I followed the instructions correct for most part. At 500 miles, I took a 300 mile trip, but I kept going form 4-5-6 so then 6-5-4 so it would change rpms for a few minutes at a time.
=\ wtf.
even when im in 6th gear going 65 on highway i reset the mpg button, it says i get like 26 max. and thats off of course, so im probably getting 24mpg highway.
granted I was getting 27-28 when it was 70* temperature, now its 30-50 degrees typically, will that have a huge impact?..

I don't trust the MPG calculator. Every time I completely fill my tank I reset the Trip Odometer. On average (with responsible driving, lol) i can get 380-400 miles to the tank, but I do a lot of highway driving. I'd say try that to see how much you're actually using. I hope this helps.

i shift between 2.5-3k and i average between 28-30mpg combined city and hwy. you just have to drive at turtle speed to get the best milage. when i went to exposed a couple weeks ago (5 hrs from my house) i did 70 the whole way and averaged 35 mpg. the break in period gives you crappy milage, but i have 60,000 miles on my car so idk if that'll make any difference. my advice would be to just drive slightly different on every tank and see what works best in the area you live in. all terrains and elevations will make a difference too

Something I just tried yesterday. With the stock air box: I removed the snorkel cut out that white secondary filter and wrapped the outside of the air box with AC insulation foil tape that I picked up from Home Depot... Before my max AVG MPG was 28. Today my AVG why MPG was 34-39 hwy and with city MPG it never went below 30 and with my job I do a lot of driving all day. My usual hwy speed is anywhere from 65 to 80 mph when im in a residential area its 10-45 mph. So it seems to be working so far.

try resetting the ecu, you might have gotten some bad gas. just pull the neg battery cable off for 10-15 minutes, i have had to do this once or twice, i usually get about 28 mpg with 50/50 driving, but on the highway i get 32-36 mpg running 70-80mph. i do have exhaust and a cai though. also try new air filter.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a smart ___ there.
I used to work on cars for a living, and when it would get cold, everyone would come in saying that their mileage sucked, wanting some crazy work done to try to fix it. 90% of the time, it was because the air in their tires had condensed due to cold weather, causing low psi.
But then again, we DO have tpms systems in our cars, so you would catch that.
Two other possible solutions:
1)Clean out your car/trunk (Im serious)
2)Change your driving style. I get 30mpg in my xb2, but only when I drive accordingly.

Depends, on a normal cruise day I shift between 2500-3k. Sometimes I will shift between 3500-4k.
I've actually managed to get 35mpg with A/C on and cruise set at 70mph. This was on a 166 mile trip.

well if the car is only 4 months old its barley broken in. I remember getting that for the first few months of owning my tC. Ive been resetting my AVG MPG trip every day and now I am getting 30+mpg thats combined city/hwy. Even when i get on it I still get 25-28MPG. After modded air box its more consistent at 30MPG
