Questions about installing a new head unit + other things
Hello everyone!
So I just bought my new 2012 tC Super White and had some questions about some things that I wanted to do to my new car.
The car came with the factory pioneer head unit. I wanted to install the navigation from the dealer, since it was an alpine and it seem nice aside from the hefty 2000$ price tag. but even the salesman himself told me to buy an aftermarket head unit that would be even cheaper. So I decided to get the Pioneer X920BT, that has navigation and all the features I want.
So here are my questions:
Does the Scion comes with an amp that drives the low, or is everything directly wired into the head unit?
If yes, do I need a special interface to use that amp, or do I need to bypass it, if I need to do it, will it make my speakers sound bad?
Do I need an special interface to be able to use the volume controls in the steering wheel? or since both systems are pioneer, I can just use the harness, that the car already has?
Thank you in advance!

i'm not sure about an internal amp for the 2nd gen tc, but the 1st gen tc did not have an amp.

the tC does have an amp it is under the drivers seat it wiires straight into the headunit harness it already has a remote/power/ground ran and it gets its signal through the normall speaker wiring this amp only powers your 6x9s in the front doors if you plan on putting in a sub you will need to run another amp. you will also need an adapter for the steering wheel controls and yes the PAC swi-ps will work just becuase the radio say pioneer does not mean it is made to work in any car like most stock systems you will have vehicle specific wiring that plugs straight into the stock head unit and the aftermarket unit will need an aftermarket plug and yes your dealer was correct the stock radios that they sell are ok but they are overly priced and are limited on what can be done with them sound wise... now idk about the stock blue tooth if your want it working with the bt on the new radio...

Using the stock bluetooth mic will be tricky. I haven't come across the wiring diagram for the 2012 headunit decks yet so not sure what connections are available on the back.
But as stated above. You will need to purchase additional equipment for any aftermarket deck to work with the tC.
You should purchase a harness for the wiring to connect all the wires from old deck to new.
A dash kit to hold that deck in place and to cover the gaps on the sides.
Steering wheel control module is needed to get the buttons working (Metra Axxess ASWC is another alternative to PAC SWI-PS)
Stock decks like the ones included in the Scion's and other Toyota vehicles are a custom fit size. Aftermarket double-din decks are not as wide.
Also having a solder helps with all the wiring but you can get by with electrical tape but I wouldn't recommend it
Keep us posted on how it goes.
