I remember doing a trans flush on my mitsu when i first got it, it had about 102,00 miles. I'd say that could be a decent time to do a trans flush. no idea on fluid for tC sorry, but flushing this fluid helps remove any metal particles that were worn over the life of the car right? It was just a given to me as part of maintaining an older car. but i never actually understood ALL the benefits of it.
Oil has many additives added that help protect moving parts. For example you have anti-foaming agents, friction modifiers, just to name two. These additives wear down with use and eventually they need to be replaced to keep protecting whatever is being lubricated, thus you change it.

ok so let's make a list of all the maintenance that is recommended besides the obvious oil changes, fluid checks and air filter changes.

What is the first thing we should be changing out?
The trans fluid flush at 30K?
seems early but what the hell, if it lets me shift smoothly.

Then Tires around 25K-50K depending on tires.
Brake pads and possibly rotors at 40K-60K

Next is spark plugs at
water pump at
Drive Belt(s) at

does this car have a timing chain/belt to replace?

-Trans (6MT) drain and fill @ 30k
-Brakes and tires depend on driving style. I got 60k out of my stock tires, and over 80k before I changed my pads and rotors
-plugs are recommended around 90-100k, but I change mine around 45-50k
- water pump is still stock @ 103,500 miles and counting
- belt started making noise a little after 60k so I changed it

Also hoping someone can chime in about the timing chain/belt. Wondering what maintenance is required for the chain. I know the belt needs changed around 100k, but what about if it's a chain?

i was asking if there even is a (timing)belt or chain to change on our cars? if so when do we have to change it?
i know the drive belts are simple to change.

According to the Scion Service guide
at every 5k check fluids, transmission, brakes, belts, etc and replace as needed. Rotate tires
at every 10k do the same AND replace engine oil/filter
at 100k do the same as every 10k AND replace engine coolant
at 120k do the same as every 10k AND replace engine air filter and spark plugs

If you're too lazy to get the book your car came with:

Thank you KJ, we were also trying to list things the manual does not list that is part of maintaining the car.

also who changes their oil 5,000 miles or more frequently? if feel lik it would be better not to wait 10,000 (especially when the car's mileage gets to being high - close to 100K and over.)

Chains usually last the lifetime of the motor. Granted, if you're pulling the head off you may as well replace the chain, guides, and tensioner. Just like anything other car you just have to keep an eye on things after a certain milestone.

I did 10k for a few intervals but now am going to switch to 7500 with a filter change half way through. If the motor is well taken care of from day one, you should not have any issues running 10k on good synthetic oil.

No way Newman, I'll never trust that 10,000 mile crap. Always 5,000 miles for me. I'm sure that 10,000 is great and it's perfect and nothing will happen it's perfectly fine, but still not for me. There's some cars that are talking like everything 15K to 20K! I'm like... "WHATTT!?" So yeah, I think most will agree that 5,000 miles is plenty. Stick with that.

good to know. I will start changing oil less than 10K miles after the free maintenance is over.

got it about the chain. doesnt sound like it is the same as for older cars. i remember you had to replace the timing chain around 80K or so on pre 2000s. new technology and engineering i suppose.

Not sure where you heard about that. My old BMW had 140k on it with original chain, many others on BMW forums are upward of 200K on completely stock motors.

You asking me or Newman? Kind of an off topic question because it really doesn't fit in with anything we were talking about....
